Default Help identify a feature on a boat trailer.

On FaceBook, someone was asking advice on buying a Chris Craft. The trailer had a feature I've never seen before. Some sort of setup with coil springs going from the axle to the frame.
    What am I looking at?
Plus, it's a dual axel, which is something I have not seen on a boat trailer.

    Here's the whole setup.
Trailer is also too small for the boat in my opinion.

An eccentric and mechanically inefficient suspension system?

It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

    What Nick said.

Instead of leaf springs, or coil springs, someone tried reinventing the mousetrap.

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

The biggest problem with that set up, ok , its unconventional, is there's no shock absorbers/ spring dampers. Seems unnecessarily complicated too, compared to say, an Indespension type , but it will work, just , why? a couple of small motorbike rear shocks and a swing arm system has to be cheaper and more efficient
I've built a few trailers over the years from a complete rear subframe of almost any small euro car, peugot , citroen , renault , where the rear coil over suspension damper units are mounted horizontally. typically from scrapper hatchbacks and small commercials with a load capacity of half a ton.

I wonder if the guy has been near aircraft? Bit like some undercarriages.
Lots wrong with the general design, with all the extra tension rods to make up for the skimpy tubes.
Good blow over with the paint job. Wonder what the boat weighs?
