    Default Wellerman

    I heard this infectiously catchy sea shanty on our local public radio folk music show the other evening. Seems that it has become a bit of an internet sensation, with all sorts of re-mixes and other variants. A discussion of this song, sea shanties in general, and the meaning of the of the whaling terms in the lyric is here.

    Gotta love the guitar part. ;-)

    It hit the mainstream radio in Germany. Quite a feat for a, Scottish shanty.

    Great tight vocal harmonies. Could have been written in the 1800's.

    Not the Wellers themselves. They ran shore whaling stations at Otago in the 1830s. Way more information here.

    That's video's the first time I've heard that song.
    There is nothing quite as permanent as a good temporary repair.
