Default 1939 28' Gulfweed Ketch on Seattle Craigslist

I've always liked the Seabird type so this is really tempting but I do NOT need another boat...

I've been watching that, but my good lady seems to think six boats is sufficient. I can't say I disagree with her too much, but sooo tempting!

See, now I'm thinking that the discrete number of boats is not the right metric to use here. Should be something like aggregate net tonnage right? I mean a storing a quiver of kayaks in the garage is a lot less effort than keeping a pilot schooner at a wharf. Just as an example. Unfortunately even by that measure I think I'm still at my limit. Still, on rough days at the office this is the sort of boat I daydream about. Just enough of everything one needs and nothing more.

Not sure if that boat had a lee helm problem or what, but that's quite a rake on those masts.
Love those boats, great deal assuming it's solid

I love how casually they mention that she needs a new stem.

Well, a new stem is what, a couple weekends maybe?

Plus the mention of a recently done horn timber does not exactly inspire confidence.

Sure! Then you realize you have to match the hull paint so you might as well repaint the whole thing, and the bottom, too, could use a little fairing, and the rubrail was a little rough up there, and look, there's a bit of rot under the bowsprit, and might as well update the forestay since the fitting looked kind of crappy when you took the whole business apart, and maybe since you had to take the whole forepeak apart you should re-think the chain locker and there's a really foul old holding take up there, too, that had to be removed to get to the stem so should you replace it or just get a self-composting setup, oh my, they're expensive! (and, two months later...)
