I used my strip glass boat as a form when I made mine, too.

Saw this the other day and was sadly disappointed when he whipped out all that fiberglass cloth. Paper canoe my foot! With all that glass you could make the core out of rice crispy/marshmallow treats and it would work just as well. There have actually been paper canoes built over the years, long before fiberglass, and without needing to chop up an expensive copy of Ted's book.

Mine were newsprint, brown craft paper, then newsprint, all glued up with “wet” glue; a bit thinned, eh?

Then I coated them it inside and out with floor sealer.

I also make tiny boats from paper, though.

This boat was also featured in Small Boats Monthly with a bit more detail about the build process.

Very Disappointing. All wrinkles and bubbles, but that is inevitable if you don't pull the separator tight to the surface.
I have always considered paper boats, and would like to know how to do it right.
It seems an awful lot like laminating fiberglass, so probably the same skills apply.
As you are reinforcing plastic resin with fiber of some sort, why select a really lousy fiber?

I never used any resins on any paper boats.
