Nathanael, that looks very nice. I'm looking for something like that to put a small outboard on. Are you looking at offering plans?

    Thanks everyone.

As far as plans I am happy to make them available these are the ones I used. Sorry they are not flo mo quality. If flo mo is a lazy perfectionist I would be whatever the opposite of that is lol. the one with the strait lines is what I used in the end and I just bent some pcv with string to draw a nice curve that looked right. Keep in mind one of my design restrictions was I need to make an easy cut while in the car park to fit the plywood in my car. But I did find it very easy to build and achieve the shape.

I would only recommend using this on very safe water. I don't plan on adding any flotation compartments, but I definitely recommend adding some at the back.

Thanks Nathanael, I might have to put together a balsa model over the next week or so!

Yer that's definitely a good idea. I have just been printing them out and gluing on to some good cardboard. Cereal boxes work well. I took it one step further and would glue 2 sheets together to get the similar properties of the plywood. I also recommend doing this with all of Flo-Mo's designs they are easy to print and go together very nicely.

I will have to try that. What thickness ply do you use in the real ones? I have checked out Flo-MO's work as well, and have a couple I like the look of.

I used 4mm. I use Flo-MO's builds to work out what thickness is best suited for the similar types of builds. He has done a design for almost every purpose. I think he has done many more then whats available on his website. There are lots more on the forums here but you need to hunt for them.

The fiberglass is on but not super clear and I got a few spots to fix up.

I was thinking of just trying to fill the pockets of air with resin.

What glass should I be using?

He did an incredible job to persuade the plywood to take the desired shape.

The transom shape is almost identical to the one you envisioned. If you use 3 mm plywood you might be able to achieve the bend, but I guess there would still be a high risk of failure.
Thank you for that! I had some correspondence about Chris's boat when I first saw it, have 'put it away safely'………… too jolly safe it turns out!
Now I can track it down again and maybe actually build it!

    It floats!
It's very steady but has traided this for no side protection. I was able to stand up and paddle.

I liked it alot more before I put the fiberglass on. The fiberglass drank up the resin and at the same time didn't go completely clear. I need to work on improving my fiberglass technique. And or use a different glass.

Ignore the pool I should have cleaned before taking this photo.

For my next build I would like to make something like this kayak it's short at only 2.6m I probably won't restrict myself to one sheet for the hull on this one as I will be needing more to make the rest. I might make it just only a hull. Not sure yet.

But first any ideas on how best to copy the shape and modify it to be easy to make out of plywood?

Marked out the panels and made them out of paper glued on an old bed sheet. Hopefully I can stranfer them on to plywood tomorrow.

Way back in the scouts we made paper mache canoes using the same method Nathaniel!
Waterproof glue and lots of paint on top!

I made up some stencils out of some old vinyl for one of the 2 versions of this kayak I plan to build over the next few days. I have been told that I can't build boats inside. My argument of "this is just designing" didn't work. The rule is now no boats inside.

So the original plan was make just one of these but while cutting out the panels I came across 2 ways of designing. So now I'm making 2. Also they where both going to use 2 sheets each as I had planned to make the seats ect. But they are so close to being able to make the hull from one sheet I just have to go for it. Get ready for 2 more one sheet boats.

This is the more complicated version of the first design it has 10 panels made up of 18 pieces all cut out of one sheet
