Default Who knows of a good saw sharpening service?

I need to have my table saw blades sharpened and I can't find anyone locally. There used to be 2, but they have passed on.

call around to the cabinet/millwork shops. They will know. Landscapers too.

I use Super Thin Saws in Waterbury, VT. They mail them out to a sharpening service I think. You could call them and ask. I have mailed blades to be sharpened in the past, and a priority mail box is a good easy way to package them. You need to pad them well as the blades will chew up the box. I have a tote made of plywood with a bolt to secure the blades. It fits inside the pre-paid priority mail box.

How about hand saws? Our local sharpening service stopped doing them about 5 years ago.

Good luck with that. There's a couple guys around here but the wait time is months. Makes my skin crawl thinking that I might have to start filing my own saws. I'd rather have root canal....

Google Saw Doctor. He's up in Providence RI. I sent my saws to him for a long time but found somebody closer. Crazy expensive.

Filing a handsaw is not difficult: http://www.vintagesaws.com/library/primer/sharp.html

Is there a Rockler or Woodcrafter or other woodworkers store near you? Often they will have a send out service. I take mine to the local Rockler store and they send them out. I get them back in about a week.

I have a local place that does circular saw blades (when I don't feel like it) and jointer & planer knives. He doesn't do hand saws, so those I have to do on my own.
