Default Townshend 30 Anyone heard of it?

There's an unfinished "Townshend 30" locally. The seller claims that it's based on a Herrshoff design, but I can't find any info on it. Might be a good project for someone who wants a project that has had a good amount done.

Looks like it’s just been spelt wrong - Townsend 30 (no “h")

It's a variation on the H-28 with higher freeboard, which increases the overhang a little. As far as I know, the hulls were pretty good.

It has been up for 26 days, but I can still see it. I wish I had a home for it.

I owned one for 10 years. If it's one of the original 'glass hulls, it ought to be rock solid. Mine was solid laminate with an encapsulated lead ballast. A fantastic boat. My only complaint was that it was under canvassed. In less than 10 knots it was a bit of a slug. But in all other respects a very fine craft.

I have the space....it's the permission I lack My wife thinks a Santana 35, 2 Mirror Dinghies, a Shearwater and an incomplete Skerry are too many boats. She's pro'lly right.

I bought the boat back in November, living in Port Townsend at the moment and waiting to get started on in once I'm down with school. I've been trying to research it though and can't find out much. Wondering if anyone knows of any or has photos. The plans that came with it are also ancient photocopies that are barely legible and appear to be incomplete so also hoping someone might have a lead on where I could find newer copies. Also would love to just get in touch with anyone who has owned one.

Congrats Trevor! That looked like a heck of a deal! Hope you post some photos of your progress with it.

I'd love to see some photos, or if you have a project thread, please share!

Those are very popular here, really nice coastal cruiser racers, perform very well. But they're almost unique to New Zealand with a very few built in Australia.
Des Townson did a particularly nice job of designing boats for that niche maerket.

Too many boats? Sounds like too many clamps, or too many guitars and neither of those are even possible......

<GRIN> That's reflects my thoughts, but I have to admit that nothing but the Santana has seen water for two years and that hasn't left the dock. Although we're starting some "club racing" again next month, so that may get some exercise.

Michael & Des, I think the Townsend 30 was a stretched Herreschoff 28. The hulls were glass and, I think, molded in Sydney, BC. They were sold as incomplete boats and finished off by owners. This one, if I recall the ad correctly, was an extremely nice example showing good material choices and craftsmanship. Wish I'd seen it ten years ago
