Default Will cruise ships boycott Fla?

Seems the cruise lines are going to want proof of vaccination for anyone boarding.

Governor of Fla. is refusing to let them do so.

Party of small government steps in again.

I'd be very tempted NOT to take a cruise.

Where, if at all, does authority swap from federal state at a coastline? High tide mark?

I think the question is where will they go?

    Boarding occurs on land.

I think the Florida gov needs to find away to save face on this screwup. The cruise industry fills hotels, ships and airline seats. I counted 12 ships anchored off shore a few nights ago. They can easily go to GA or TX or AL. I hope they stand their ground (pun intended).

Someone needs to 'stand their ground' against this idiot governor.

Yeah. I suspect that neighboring states will be happy to host the industry.

That's a long way from the Caribbean. A load of Florida "cruises" are very cheap, very short runs to the nearest place with beaches, straw markets, and gambling.

They should run the cheap cruises out of FL, and allow only unvaccinated people aboard.

Are you guys forgetting about Disney World, Epcot, Cape Canaveral, Miami, The Keys, the Bahamas?

Sea Island is real nice, but...

The governor is counting these places as hole cards.

If the cruise lines are international (like Viking), perhaps they can claim the regulations mandated under their own flag of registration, no?

A purely practical point - will anyone take a cruise that includes unvaccinated passengers?

Will operators ensure that all staff are vaccinated?

Some, undoubtedly, will. There's an ass for every seat, as the saying says. But will there be enough of them to keep a port of call profitable?

Have you ever been on an "inexpensive" cruise line? I can say that many could care less. In fact, since it's Florida, there will be many that are proud of being unvaccinated.

I'm sure nothing could go wrong. Make them sign waivers indemnifying the cruise line for being the vector for their COVID, and assigning any COVID related medical costs specifically to DeSantis.

what are vaccination rates like at likely island ports of call?

what would a ship load of unvaccinated peoples do to the infection rate of an island the size of nassau?
Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

I believe his order excludes Disney and Universal.

Most nations are going to be requiring certificates of vaccination in exactly the same way that they require other travel documents - like passports. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is deep into the weeds right now in international discussions of what standards these would need to meet.

Try as he might, DeSantis doesn't have jurisdiction over international travel. Neither the US side of that, nor other countries'.

    For entry, Bahamas requires either:

    A. proof of vaccination

    or

B: Negative Covid test result within five days prior to arrival.

Most of the pilots I fly with are not vaccinated, and have no plans to be. I have been, but have no desire to fly international routes. Could get interesting.

Iím surprised. I thought airline pilots were rational people, with an understanding of science.

Within a few months then, I suspect they'll find that they won't be permitted to deplane then. That might be a bit of incentive for them.

Norwegian is keeping fairly quiet about it while Carnival takes the brunt of the fight. My guess is they are looking at the logistics of boarding in the Bahama's, since the major portion of the passengers fly in anyway. Let the airline deal with the passport and vaccination problem, and the cruise ship can shuttle them straight from the airport to boarding.

It's not ideal since you'd get passengers wondering why they are getting on a boat to go to tropical island, when they just flew to a tropical island.

And it's not a fight the cruise lines want, but we'll have to see how it affects ticket sales before they really start making moves.

Why would anyone want to get onto a cruise ship/petrie dish if there was any remote chance of an infected person being on board? And there always will be now, that world has gone. And as for unvaccinated international airline staff, is the air in the cockpit separated from the air in the cabin?

Yes. The cockpit has a separate system most aircraft. Also the air on a jet is replaced at a MUCH higher rate than in a home or building. It comes in from above and goes out down by your feet.
