    Default Craigslist Complaint

I gotta my head against the wall sometimes because of the lousy ads on CL.

I am looking for some oars.....Don't you think buyer might, just might, want to know the length of the oars you're selling?

Anyone else have complaints about CL ads?

Some people don't know oars come in lengths. They just don't know.

Recent interaction with a guy selling some life jackets, starting with my email:

When could I come take a look at them?
    Seller: I suppose tonight (rec'd @ 20:30)
Sorry can't make it tonight. When's another good day & time?
    2 days of silence, then
Seller: I thought you wanted to look at the life jackets?
I hadn't heard back on when I could take a look & where you are?
Seller: Well if you can't be bothered to come over, never mind

    I suspect alcohol.

I am actually thinking I will make some oars, unless of course I can find a cheap set.

I had some Pocock racing sculls years ago when I had a sliding seat rig-- I am not the kind of woodworker that could have made those sculls. They were a thing of beauty

    Hmmmm-

I thought that Craigslist cleaned up their act, and got rid of all of the oars.

I've never ever had anything but problems selling or buying anything from Craigslist.

For me it's always been some sort of clearing house for some Nigerian type scam. Don't try to sell ANYTHING on it you will have to filter through a million people trying to convince you that they will send you the shipping money ahead if you refund them the something or other it's always some bait & switch scam. I just use buy & sell apps now.

In the past couple years Facebook marketplace has really cut into the Craigslist market, but man did CL use to have cool stuff.

I haven't used Craig's list for several years and don't use Facebook at all, but have had good luck with CL in the past. I bought mostly bicycles and bike parts, a lawnmower, a broken pressure washer for the engine which is now on my tiller, etc.

I have bought and sold a bunch of stuff on CL, including donated boats for our Sea Scout ship. The key is a good ad and a reasonable price. I drop the price over time until the item sells.

Years ago I sold my Hein Gerricke Paris Dakar motorcycle jacket. No bites at $200 and then the price went down. The guy who bought it at $90 said, "you could have gotten a lot more for this...." Wrong

The guy selling the Pocock racing sculls for $100 said, "I think I priced these too low..." Right.

    IME, FB is far inferior.

The search function is just wretched.

Also, there’s no way to exclude by geography to any useful degree.

The difference is that CL was designed to serve its customers, and FB is designed to make -uckerberg rich.

I loathe Facebook and don’t use it; but sellers & buyers tell me that’s where the action is now.

    1) I had some butternut - 20" x 10" dia logs. Offered 'em free on CL - guy picked 'em up next day & brought a 4 pack of a good local brew to say thanks. 2) Last Sunday AM I found 2 life jackets from one seller & a bird feeder from another - both in the same town about 15 miles away. I replied to both ads, heard back within an hour, scheduled them 45 min. apart, drove to house 1, paid $20 for a $100 feeder, drove to the 2nd, got 2 Beans kids life jackets for $15 each ($60 @ Beans). I was back home in a bit over an hour.

Are there losers on CL? Sure. Lots of good folks & deals too.

I can't remember the last time I had any sort of problem with CL.

Right after the 2008 crash I sold a few things on CL and omg what a hysterical bunch of dialogs. “I would like to buy your item”….

I once picked up an old Craftsman jointer at the dump. Was going to fix it all up. 5 years later, it was still where I put it on the garage floor so I CLed it. I posted a pic and said it would be at a stop sign near my house. It was gone within 10 minutes. Before I could delete the ad, at least a half dozen people were sniffing around the stop sign.

I once put a perfectly good working clean fridge out in front of the house with a sign 'please take me free. works fine blah blah ' it sat there for two days until the condo manager got a bit sniffy about 'the white goods' by the rubbish bin. his idea ....a new sign.....' fridge for sale 50 bts. put the money in the letter box' it had gone in about twenty minutes. not the fifty beer tokens in the mailbox though.
