I don't know why I waited so long to get one of these
Dual marking gauge. This one's by Veritas, and it is a nice piece of work, well worth the 60 bucks. In the photo the scoring discs are set with bevels to the outside, for tenons. For mortises the bevels would be positioned opposite, so bevel is always on the waste side.

Nice engineering, but I suspect that these old school versions sit nicer in the hand.
DSC04110.jpgIt really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

^1 Absolutely Nick! I have both types and use them regularly. Easy to set, comfortable to use. And on the rosewood ones there's usually a single point on the other side –– Cheers GeorgeLast edited by debenriver; 05-17-2023, 08:35 AM.To be truly free to live, one must be free to think and speak.

After using the Veritas for a few hours yesterday, the flared base does fit nicely in the hand, different but no worse than my wood marking gauge. I was specifically looking for a dual marking gauge and expected to buy a wood one, but this was the only one the store carried.Comment
