Re: Health issues & Powered respirators

Some interesting ideas! turns out that there is a cold bug going round that has similar effect to whooping cough, quite a few people i know now have similar!
I have downloaded the airstream parts list & am waiting for a quote for the parts, it seems nobody stocks all the parts so its a special order.
Looked at other makes, Scott, 3M Versaflo & Sundstrom. All are nice bits of kit but are a lot of money.
I quite like the idea of the blower fed suit, that would be good if you were fibreglassing!

Re: Health issues & Powered respirators

An update, the cough got better eventually, last time i sand epoxy without a respirator! After a lot of research it is apparent that there are plenty of good powered & air fed respirators on the market but they are very expensive for the likes of a one man band boatbuilder with uncertain earnings!
However i found that the old Racal Airstream helmet that i have had for 25 years was still recently being marketed by 3m and parts are still available. Apparently parts are available for a while but it is being phased out. I bought enough filters & seals plus other bits to see me out, The battered old thing has now been rebuilt. Cost of the parts was steep but a lot less than a new one. I must say its lovely being able to actually see out of the visor!

Wow this all looks miserable! Switch to wooden boats and hand planes- your lungs will thank you!
