    Does it matter she accepted 6500 dollars worth of clothes and $1200 of flowers from Oprah ? Or is this a nothing burger?

    How does our forum ethical police find this?

    ---------------------------------------------------
    WASHINGTON (AP) — Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson disclosed Wednesday that she received a $1,200 congratulatory floral display from Oprah Winfrey and $6,580 in designer clothing for a magazine photo shoot in her first months as the first Black woman on the Supreme Court.
    The details of gifts given to Jackson were among the reports provided by most members of the court in their annual filings, which give a partial window onto their finances. The reports were released Wednesday.
    But the report that was most anticipated — that of Justice Clarence Thomas, who has been under scrutiny for his receipt of undisclosed gifts from a Republican donor — was not among the filings. Thomas, along with Justice Samuel Alito, sought an extension for up to 90 days.
    Thomas’ receipt of gifts, valued at several hundred thousand dollars, from the Republican donor Harlan Crow has prompted calls for ethics reform on the nation’s highest court. It was not clear why either man needed more time.
    Without friends none of this is possible.

    Dunno on the flowers as if they were cut flowers, they'll die anyway + what's the difference between a $100 bouquet & a $1,200 one?. But the clothes should be returned. The whole court needs to look at itself differently.

    ETA: The disclosure makes a huge difference!

      I don't know if that breached ethics - but 'avoid any appearance of impropriety' comes to mind. Of course, it's small potatoes compared to the remainder, but that's relative.

      The worst offenders appear to be CT and SA, both of whom sought extensions that allow them to delay disclosure until after the current docket is closed.

      If you're grading on a curve, 1 being 'best', 10, 'worst', KBJ would get a '2' or so, CT and SA, a '10'.

        Do we need to call the EthicsPolice? Or the FalseEquivalenceSquad?

        Are you seriously admitting, Ted, that you can't weight this one for yourself?

          Has she ruled in cases involving Oprah Winfrey? Refused to recuse herself? No?

          And she disclosed her acceptance of the gifts?

          There you go.

            Ted likes to be the stinker in the woodpile. It balances out his otherwise saintly characteristics.

              Normal procedure to file the disclosure forms
              What’s the problem?

                  At least we found out about these because she disclosed them herself. $1200 for flowers from Oprah would be about equivalent to a postcard saying congratulations from me.

                    You seem to judge others quite easily. Interesting you do not use it on the topic but the person who asks the question. Classic.

                      I thought perhaps my judgement of the topic was implicit. My judgement of you comes from years of watching you raise nothingburger topics as if they were of some consequences. What I wonder is if you watch too much mainstream, or even right wing, 'news' content. There's gotta be some reason you can't discern a nothingburger for yourself, and discard it, instead of dragging it in here and stinking up the joint. At least check with Pless first... as I understand it HE is in charge of the miasma.

                        It's simple. People, don't offer gifts. Judges, don't accept gifts. It's wrong.

                          Some kind of panel, committee, something. Something quick and easy. Poof, judge gone. What could go wrong?

                            From information in the story:
                            - Timely and complete reporting;
                            - Nothing to do with court business;
                            - No imputations of any impropriety; therefore
                            - Nothing except the glaring contrast between Justice Jackson and people like Justice Thomas and Chief Justice Roberts.
