We are unlikely to have a Constitutional Convention so the proposal is good propaganda but realistically moot, which is good as the right wing crazies would try to take over and push their totalitarian and racist agendae.Comment

Agreed but it would force the states that put "the love of guns" above "the love of their children" on the public record and as we have seen when overtly racist, homophobic or misogynistic laws are passed there are real world business consequences.
To say nothing of the perception that certain states are inherently dangerous given their lax attitude towards guns and their relentless support of the 2nd without any limitations whatsoever. When foreign governments such as France, the UK, OZ, Canada, NZ issue travel advisories towards the US based on gun issues, states that oppose this ratification are going to start feeling it at the cash register."Unrepentant Reprobate"

Article V:
We're closer to an Article V constitutional convention than you might think. Nothing in Article V requires that resolutions calling for an Article V convention be related, either in time or subject matter. And the states in red in the map below, 28 of the 34 (2/3) required by Article V, have each passed, over the years, one or more such resolutions calling for an Article V convention to amend the constitution.The Congress..., on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which...shall be valid...as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress...
As Common Cause has pointed out, it would almost certainly be a bad idea. Multiple constitutional scholars have observed that Congress would not able to impose limits upon such a convention, based on [an admittedly small] precedent, when the last (and only such) convention simply chucked the Articles of Confederation wholesale and replaced it with our current Constitution. And such a convention, certainly now, would almost certainly would be largely comprised of right-wing zealot idealogues rather than wise, educated, and dispassionate persons.
What ever changes such a convention proposed would, of course, have to be ratified by 3/4 of the states. That's one large hurdle that the nutters would have to get past to turn us into a theocracy.

Even Anthony Scalia and Warren Burger found common ground on the inadvisability of an Article V convention.
A number of prominent jurists and legal scholars have warned that a constitutional convention could open up the Constitution to radical and harmful changes. For instance, the late Justice Antonin Scalia said in 2014, “I certainly would not want a constitutional convention. Whoa! Who knows what would come out of it?”
Similarly, former Chief Justice of the United States Warren Burger wrote in 1988:
Such serious concerns are justified, for several reasons:There is no way to effectively limit or muzzle the actions of a Constitutional Convention. The Convention could make its own rules and set its own agenda. Congress might try to limit the Convention to one amendment or one issue, but there is no way to assure that the Convention would obey. After a Convention is convened, it will be too late to stop the Convention if we don’t like its agenda.

A Constitutional Convention has the potential to cause all sorts of mischief. Imagine horse trading an antiabortion amendment for abolishing the Second Amendment, or some budget ceiling foolishness.Comment

Right you are. It is so much easier proposing an impossible and unworkable fix, rather than actually putting in any kind of real effort to make even a small change. That's our man Newsom, shooting for the moon, with no idea where the rocket might end up. Progressive leadership at its best.Comment
