I think is an exercise that combines creativity and strategy, wisdom and imagination…
Regardless of whether they are more scientific, more science fiction or projections of future personal preference:

Give us three of your projections.

AI will replace 50 percent of all current workers which will ripple into mass sociological changes making only the most brilliant competitive and skilled blue collar workers desirable/employable.

The wealthiest can expect to live past 130 with a full fulfilling active life to the end. Most elderly with good medical insurance can expect to live past 95. Those without quality medical care or wealth will continue to decline.

Air quality will be very poor causing people to live and operate indoors; ramifications is that virtual reality will be everything as most will share life virtually.

I'm struck, Ted, at how these are prompts for Revolution. More than anything riling up the French in 1789. I'd not be surprised by these, except they'd only be sustained by authoritarianism.

My predictions?

1. Migration from low to high income countries (and climate affected regions) will increase and prompt ever more political extremism and violence. Tension easing only with generational change, and intermarriage.
2. Following a 300 year trend ... people's values will increasingly be shaped by "imagined" communities (communities of interest, identity etc.) and geographic states become less relevant. Nation states will persist, but within a neo-medieval like complex network of multiple and overlapping loyalties, depending on the issue.
3. Look thus in the medium term for more state-level conflict (e.g. Ukraine), with this easing in 30 years and being replaced by multi-polar and multi-sectoral conflicts reflecting interest groups. Whether reactionary (e.g. MAGAs) or based around other identity concepts.

I'm trying on the heirloom furniture front. A chest I made for my older son roughly on the Anarchist's Toolchest model should outlast his grandchildren, presuming there isn't an apocalypse in the interval. A kitchen island I'm building at the moment probably won't last that long, but will well outlast Herself and me by a couple of decades.

It's occurring to me that if you aspire to build something that could last decades, it's worth the time trying to sort out a design that someone might want to look at for decades.

About 25 years, eh?

1. I predict that public schools will have succeeded in teaching kids how to think - to be able to critically evaluate writing and speaking, and to grasp a variety of hypotheses without committing to any of them (except provisionally) until more facts are revealed.

2. I predict that this trend will become evident first... right here in the Bilge.

3. I predict that the drugs that fueled predictions #1 & #2 will become legalized.

AI created pathogens cull the human herd
Space exploration is primarily done by China and a few trillionaires
A few radioactive craters here and there as assumptions turned out to be mistaken.
My great grandkids cover the countryside on bicycles whooping it up like wild banshees.

Flying cars that have long been predicted will not become anything more than a toy for a few.

Cars will be mostly electric.

Homes will provide their own power, but will remain on the grid.

Gun violence will get worse.

People of affluence will have their own in home AI dog robotic groomer. You will be selling AI dog groomer robots on the facebook metaverse for peoples virtual dogs and cats.

Most cats and dogs will be consumed as delicacies and will be a major export product from small family breeder farms to China.

On the darker side predicting

There will 10s of millions more displaced persons living in decaying urban centers. They will be on medication both prescribed and but the majority self medicating. They will be living in former commercial office space and old hotels being fed Soylent Green and insect proteins.

Toxic air and water from climate change will stimulate high tech organ farms enabling many with insurance to get new organs - AI doctors will do the operations.

It will be unsafe to ride a working bicycle due to bike highjacking and toxic air.

Plasma rifles at 40 watt range eliminate the need for gunpowder. Chargeable at Tesla rapid charge stations
