Yes... that is correct. I did not hit a deer. A deer hit me. About 6:45 this morning.
Immediately after feeding my dog at 6:00 am I was out the door to drive 12 miles north to the Sandusky, Ohio Meijer to do a bit of early morning grocery shopping. I then purchased a hot coffee from the shop next door and headed back home to Norwalk.
I was cruising along at 55 mph south on U.S. 250 and approaching the traffic light at the entrance to the big Kalahari Resort, about an eighth of a mile ahead, when WHAM! a White Tail deer t-boned the driver's side of my car.
I never saw it. I was looking straight ahead thinking that I needed to slow in case the light changed. There was no other traffic nearby. On impact I saw for an instant, in my peripheral vision, brown hide at my driver's side window. About two miles further down the road I pulled into a motel parking lot and called the Perkins Township Police Department to report the incident and a large dead deer in the middle of US 250. I turned around and met a township police officer at the scene. He had already dragged the carcass to the side of the road. He registered a report for me and got my driver's license and insurance info.
This really sucks. I love my little 2014 Ford Fiesta ST and have taken good care of it. And I hated seeing the deer in it's death throes my rearview mirror immediately after impact. There is no damage to the front and rear quarter panels or the left rocker panel that I can see. But the driver's side front and rear doors are toast. Damn!
