If a woman ( or anyone ) is acting irrationally and you walk away until the episode passes, did it even happen at all?

I tried climbing out the window. My 2 1/2 yr old daughter was saying to the wife “you shouldn’t hit daddy when he’s going out a window”

BTW ,I tend to let these things run their course,listening carefully and making sure that it's not my fault.

Undoubtedly the best answer so far.

One thing - it only works if it IS chloroform. If not, instead of losing consciousness she only loses her sense of humor.

I find that chocolate does help. Then make myself the butt of a joke. Once she starts laughing, it's all over.

De-escalation is an art. Give her space, be a good listener, show some sympathy, same as with anyone else.
