I've been whining for years that modern American pickup trucks are nothing more than
huge SUV's with a next-to-useless cargo bed.
My Jeep Cherokee with a utility trailer is more sensible than that giant truck.I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.

It can go 75 mph the little one can’t. A better comparison would be a minivan carrying six people and the crew cab carrying six. Or any work vehicle common to places where gas prices are higher and the whole slew of tax incentives for buying light trucks didn’t exist.Comment

Horses for courses.
I have a Tundra w/crew cab because I sometimes need to haul a crew. And lately, I've also installed baby seats to ferry the bandicoots to school a few days a week. And I need a 6'+ bed because I haul sheet goods there while the lumber goes up on the roof racks. And I sleep sleep back there when I go solo to boating messabouts. And I own 7 boats, so frequently am towing a boat, not to mention clients boats going to the shop & back - which precludes a utility trailer. And a utility trailer makes it a bear to park somewhere while you pick up materials from the next supplier.
Not sensible at all. For me.
But I'm still looking for a slightly smaller version with a hybrid drivetrain... so it takes up less space and uses less gas. The latest version of the Tacoma, with crew or Xtra cab, and 6' bed, might just fit the bill...David G

You may as well state: the wheels of both trucks are round.
As in boats, length is not the best measure of size. Volume is better. Measure the depth and width of both beds.
Then consider the ground clearance, towing capacity and factor in how many people you need to carry.
