Not that I can see. Btw truck drivers, translators, food service, mechanics, technicians etc are essential and not mercenaries. What I’m pointing out is that all these vital personel who are exposed to danger and death in similar numbers as “our” uniformed personell but are left out of the patriotic blather regardless of nationality. Does anyone say “thank you for your service” to the Fijiian who works for Triple Canopy or the New Zealander working for Xe? They’re vital to the mission. If BrianW got hurt in Afghanistan do people blow it off because he’s not in uniform?

pfft, history, that’s for people who don’t have trillions to burn.

Five years into the conflict, experts estimate the cost of the war to be anywhere from $600 billion to $4 trillion – tens of times more than originally projected.

WASHINGTON — At the outset of the Iraq war, the Bush administration predicted that it would cost $50 billion to $60 billion to oust Saddam Hussein, restore order and install a new government.

Should be noted that the country with the largest military budget, larger than the next ten countries combined, was devastated by 19 young men with boxcutters.

And our response was not so good.

We should have listened to the 9/11 Families for Peace https://peacefultomorrows.org/about-us/

But instead they were vilified - especially on Reich Wing media.

Once it was determined we were attacked by Al Qaeda, invading countries made no sense. Trying to establish a multi-national anti terrorism force might have made sense, but we invaded two countries at great cost of both blood and treasure, and for no good purpose.

No good purpose for those without power but for those our electoral system empowers plus the political power of industry (MIC) there’s as valid a purpose as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The neocons and Cheney saw a window of opportunity to be taken after 9/11 that could close quickly so whoever was elected in 2004 it wouldn’t matter once the ball was in motion. Mission accomplished, trillions spent and relatively few died compared to Vietnam.

Both parties are in thrall to the National Security Blob.

The simple fact is that mindless militarization is being challenged by neither the Congress nor the media.  Defense spending is excessive; base agreements are being expanded; large-scale land and air exercises are being resumed; and multilateral embargoes are being expanded on dual-use technology.  Later this month, NATO will conduct the largest air exercise in its history.  Air Defender 23 will involve 25 nations, 10,000 participants, and 220 aircraft that will gratuitously raise the level of tension throughout Europe.  A similar exercise in Europe 40 years ago, Able Archer, led to a war scare in the Soviet Union.

Since Vietnam, which presidents have invaded other countries? Do you see it as a 50/50 split between parties or 60/40, 70/30?

Are we still building planes and tanks no one wants to keep people in certain states employed? This is a few years old. There was also a report on planes no one wanted. Certainly seems a lot of money was wasted, and may still be being wasted.

It is not a matter of opinion and how we "see it". It is a matter of historical record,

And define your terms . . . What constitutes an "invasion" ??
