#1 son has resumed sailing his International Canoe… a little more practice is indicated but he’s discovered an active fleet at Walton and Frinton YC and is determined to “get back on the sliding seat!”

That’s the last wooden IC afaik; built in 1993, but there are some wooden decked carbon hulls in the W&FYC fleet which now numbers 12 - the biggest fleet of canoes in one club in history!

#2 son is enjoying his Squib

Favourite Niece (honorary substitute daughter) passed her driving test with flying colours and has an interview coming up. She went to an expensive hair salon. She wanted to go golden blonde as she had been in her late teens, but was told that they would not do it as her hair was damaged from having been permed.

She emerged furiously angry at “wasting all that money” but after a couple of days appreciates their honesty and professionalism. And I’d say they did a good job.

She is getting lots of driving practice as she doesn’t drink so she is “designated driver” for most of her friends!

    Late teen version:

    Wonderful stuff, ACB!
It is really all that matters.

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

I once owned a Changjiang 750 motorcycle, and commuted to work on it, which comes close, but I have to admit that the steam canoe is in a class of its own.

May I refer you to my excellent advice on Brussels sprouts?

                That International Canoe looks impossible!

                More power to his elbow!

Correct; apparently one of the advantages of Walton on Naze for ICs is that you can just park on the mud for a couple of minutes.

Brussel Sprouts, certain evidence that Satan exists as far as I am concerned.

I have other pet hates but when I am finally approved as the overlord of the world, Brussel Sprouts will be the first to feel my wrath.

                          Re: Family update

There are three (well, four) main types of IC:

                          1. The common or garden one, the Nethercott One Design. So called after the chap who drew the lines of the one design hull, and the version sailed at Walton on Naze, but apart from the hull shape and the weight there aren’t many other restrictions and I’ve never seen such a diverse one design fleet.

                          2. Separate class, same hull but with assymetric spinnaker.

                          3. New rules IC, narrower hull.

                          4. Really old boats, built by Uffa Fox or by Ernie Nunn.
