Re: Swedish cars
we've just recently adopted a Volvo V50 built on the Ford/Mazda/Volvo global P1 platform, same as the C70 above also S40, C30, Mazda 3, Ford Focus II
it was built in Belgium but most parts now seem to come from Germany/Italy/Poland/Slovakia.
engine is a pretty standard Volvo 5-cylinder design, i've found it to be near bombproof..
because it was technically certified a Pzev vehicle when new it originally came with a 150,000mi or 15 year warranty on most running/timing/emissions parts (as mandated by law i guess?)
this one has 240,000 miles on it, hope to have many more in the future.. can't imagine a better car for our purposesComment

Re: Swedish cars
If your V50 is AWD, and if you ever need a rear driveshaft (seems that's not uncommon & it's CV joints not U-joints so not rebuildable without a lathe & welder) - Volvo was $2400 & Colorado Driveshaft (no affiliation) was $800 when I needed one 2-3 years ago."If it ain't broke, you're not trying." - Red GreenComment

Re: Swedish cars
nope ! FWD and no turbo, and no sunroof either.. less complication and less headache and maybe why it's still running smoothly today
i just replaced both front CV axles, at least one was definitely original.. probably both were
$100 for one low mileage genuine Volvo shaft from the dismantlers and $100 for the other OE but NOS on ebay
..the fancy indie mechanic quoted me $2000 for the jobComment

Re: Swedish cars
When in Sweden.....try to blend in... Volvo 460 and Vattern snipa.
And for the hardcore Volvo fans, the 460 was basically a Renault.......(the Horror.....in a Marlon Brando Apocolypse Now style)Comment
