Re: What is the earliest toy you can remember having?

While I still have my teddy bear - it lives on the table next to my bed - the earliest I remember is a steamshovel for the sandbox. There was a road grader & dump truck too. I'm sure there were earlier toys, but my little brain doesn't remember them. I did spend hours & hours playing in that sandbox.

Got to watch the real deal on Saturday morning tv with Ed Bradley in between Scooby-Doo do and HR Puffin Stuff. With dead VC and wounded GIs out in the jungle.

Bet your ass you could put an eye out.

            Blocks.

I still have my snow shovel.

I should have stored it in the house instead of in the shed. Stuff rusts just standing still around here. Whats only barely visible now is a snow man painted on the blade.

When I went on line to find pictures, I found that most alphabet blocks had smooth sides. Mine were like the pic I posted with interlocking grooves and blue and red rails on opposite sides.

I don’t remember a “first toy quote. I did have a stamped metal, red pedal tractor. We had a fantastic neighbor, who took a shine to me, and made me a small combine that I could pull with the tractor. I remember being disappointed Dash“it doesn’t actually work “. Ungrateful little ****!

Yours must have been hand-me-downs. You don’t look anywhere near that old.

I think they may have been. I was the youngest. I had a lot of hand-me-downs.

A doorstop for my bedroom door. It was cast iron horse about eight inches high, heavy as hell. At night it made me feel safe that no monsters would get in as long as 'Heavy Horse' held my door closed. I'd drag it out of the way in the morning, set it aside so it faced the open door to 'guard the room' then go downstairs for breakfast.

My teddy bear which is sitting on my mother's wardrobe, was bought for my first Christmas, is coming up to 66 years old.

Other than that Probably an airfix kit, I was alway building them.
