Wow, how old are some of you cats? Outside plumbing and ice on the inside of the windows, sounds almost like frontier living straight out of pioneer days.

My granddad was actually born in a log cabin with water fetched from a stream and he missed living in 3 centuries by a mere 15 hours. 5 years old when the first heavier than air flight took place, saw a man walk on the moon, yet never had a DL, never drove an automobile in more than a hundred years on planet earth.

This was the first thing to come to mind when I read the thread title. 1 ring for the neighbors, 2 rings for us.

I remember so many of the things posted.

Black and white TV and only able to get two channels.
              Party line telephone.
Three on the tree manual transmission on the car.
              No radio in the car.
              Transistor radios.
Kool-Aid. God, we drank gallons and gallons of that stuff!
Every recreational boat was made from wood!!
Radios with tubes; Remember the "Car radio repaired while you wait" signs. Mostly it needed a new tube.

                  Four bale walkthrough cowshed.
Hand cranked machines that would shuck the corn.
The machine next to that would grind the corn for cornflour.
Handcranked centrifuge to seperate the honey from the comb/frame.

We had one with the TV, a turntable and am/ fm stereo receiver, the think was seven feet long and cranked out tunes super loud.

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

TVs did not exist when I was a kid in the 1940s.

It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.
