Liver, kidneys, and lima beans. Oddly enough, as an adult, I grew some lima beans, and they were delicious. Nothing like the horrid things Mon used to serve. I've also tried liver and kidneys as an adult- nope, still taste nasty to me, and I'll eat darn near anything.

Don't you like the taste of a good piece of marbled beef roasted, or a rib roasted on the bone?
The flavour is in the fat, so it is concentrated in the dripping. The best chips are fried in beef dripping.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

Brussel Sprouts, I just don't see the point.
        Reminds of the joke.
What's the difference between Broccoli and snot?
You can't get kids to eat broccoli.

In WW2, bread and dripping was a treat for us kids.
I also used to like eating raw, hard, chewy beef fat- bet that gets someone going!

Beef tongue. My mother thought of it as a great treat. I was forced to gag my portion down. I never had kidney as a child and only once had it as an adult. The smell was revolting.

Along the coast above SantaCruz Brussel Sprouts are grown. Little green alien brains on a thick stalk packed tight. I have positive associations with them but also wariness, like they’re related to Triffids. When my daughter was 2 she’d munch on a raw brussel sprout.

I liked almost everything put in front of me and therefore was directed to the "husky" section when trying on back to school clothes. But I do remember not really liking cream cheese and jelly sandwiches very much.

I was lucky. My parents hated the things I didn't want to eat and they still do. Mom has never served liver.

I didnt like liver at first as a child, but I came to like it and still do.

Not much I remember not eating, nothing really, but I remember not liking food as much if I ran out of milk to wash it down. So, I learned to self-ration my drink.

As for milk and fish, I have not enjoyed the dishes mentioned but certainly would. I love fish chowder and New England clam chowder, both made with milk/ cream. And, soaking fish like sand shark in milk before cooking improves the flavor. And I drink milk when eating fish: just yesterday I washed down grilled salmon with milk. All of this to say that milk and fish dishes seem ok by me.

We ate bread and dripping, though we called it gravy bread.

“Daisy Ham” - sort of a ham sausage made up of the “other” bits of ham trimmings. Usually braised. Fatty, stringy, blech.

The bad rap a lot of vegetables get is due to poor quality and improper cooking. We eat tons of okra, because it's one of the few things that flourish in our garden. We tried cooking it a variety of ways, and most were pretty dreadful. But, if it's fresh, and you season it and grill it for a couple minutes, it's great. Makes a good dill pickle, too. Most everything that comes out of our garden is vastly superior to what you can buy, mostly because it's fresh.

Liver and onions or stuffed peppers.
