Today I realized that in my life I've met people who were born 150 years ago.

I knew my great grand aunt, born in 1876. She probably knew people born in the 18th Century.

        My grandmother, 1884.
There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled.

              Re: Time

My grandchildren might see the next century. That IS thought provoking. Grandmother born 1873, gramp 1868.

My younger daughter might live in 3 centuries if she lives as long as her great great grandmother (1882-1986)

My kids will probably make note of the 100th anniversary of Pearl Harbor’s attack.

As a kid, I watched TV panel game shows, like What’s My Line and I’ve Got a Secret. They are replayed on YouTube now and the other day one of the contestants, a very elderly gentleman’s secret was that he witnessed Abraham Lincoln being shot. He was at the Ford Theatre as a five year old with his parents. Said he remembered seeing a man jump to the stage from the side balcony and he was concerned that he was alright. That was John Wilkes Booth but at the time he hadn’t realized what had happened. I of course never met this man, but our timespans would have overlapped.

And before you know it we'll each be one of them. Live so as to be remembered well. Live so as to go out proudly, maybe even with a grin.

It's interesting to link overlapping lives of people we've known and see how far back it takes us, whose lives overlapped, etc. As a kid I watched tv with my grandfather, including the Apollo moon landings among other things, although by then I was a teenager. Sir John McDonald, the first Prime Minister of Canada, was PM when my grandfather was himself a kid. Gramps was born in 1886, five years after the 'gunfight at the OK Corral'. Wyatt Earp had tried to enlist and fight in the US civil war but his father stopped him. Earp eventually moved to Los Angeles where he was something of a celebrity among Hollywood actors, offering advice to actors making movies about the Old West. Earp died in LA in 1929, when the city was already choked with cars and my grandfather was in his 40s.

I look at lots of photos taken back when I was young- family groups, friends, neighbours, social gatherings etc, and in many of them every single person is long since dead and gone. And now it's the turn of my generation. There's no escaping it JayInOz
