Re: DeSantis to declare candidacy tomorrow

Just got this email from MY Governor:

    Joseph -

A short while ago, Ron DeSantis officially filed paperwork to become a candidate for President of the United States.
To state the obvious, we all have a role to play if we're going to stop him from becoming president and Making America Florida.
That said, DeSantis' campaign operation starts with more than $100 million and President Biden needs our help to catch up.

    https://act.gavinnewsom.com/go/Biden2024

Otherwise, here's why I am asking:
Joe Biden's campaign because freedom is under attack in Florida.
Joe Biden's campaign because they ban books in Florida, they restrict speech in Florida, they make it easier to buy guns and harder to vote in Florida.
Joe Biden's campaign because Ron DeSantis signed a bill making abortion illegal in Florida at six weeks, and if it couldn't get worse, he requires victims of rape and incest to show documents proving their trauma.

So no. We are not going to "Make America Florida."

      BREAKING NEWS !!!!

The 2024 RaceLive Updates: DeSantis Stumbles Out of the Gate With a Twitter Meltdown

The Florida governor, Donald Trump’s strongest challenger since 2016, entered the race on Wednesday. But a livestream conversation with Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, was plagued by glitches.

DeSantis’s attempt to launch his campaign on Twitter turns into a fiasco.

Ron DeSantis’s long-awaited official entry into the 2024 presidential campaign went haywire for almost a half-hour on Wednesday during a glitch-filled livestream over Twitter.

The technical problems eventually subsided but seriously marred what should have been a climactic moment for Mr. DeSantis, the combative 44-year-old governor of Florida who has been seen as the most formidable Republican rival that former President Donald J. Trump has faced since his ascent in 2016.

Re: DeSantis to declare candidacy tomorrow

I don't discount any insanity with regard to elections anymore. John Kasich was the obvious and best choice for presidential candidate back in 2016, although Jeb bush did impress me, I just couldn't stomach another Bush after George Jr. I was all ready to applaud the first woman President after the first black President and it didn't hurt that she was smart and knew the terrain of politics at that level. To this day I'm still befuddled that a goofy obviously dishonest goober like Donald Trump whose entire campaign was nothing but hate and spite was elected to the office of President. President DeStalin could very well be a reality with the Fascist billionaires support.

Did anyone here listen to the Twitter Space announcement after it finally worked? The idea of doing it there seemed so oddly creepy to me. The gaslighting, disembodied voices reminded me of the Big Brother "Thought Crime" scenes in the film "1984": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_cYvIXBZWk
For the most part experience is making the same mistakes over and over again, only with greater confidence.

            .
Elon Musk's SpaceX would characterize DeSantis' Twitter Spaces campaign launch as "a rapid unscheduled disassembly."

Do you think Elon this morning is still bragging about the number of Twitter employees he eliminated?
"They have a lot of stupid people that vote in their primaries. They really do. I'm not really supposed to say that but it's an obvious fact. But when stupid people vote, you know who they nominate? Other stupid people." -- James Carville on the plethora of low-quality GQP candidates in the mid-term election.

I wonder if the older oligarchs are shaking their heads seeing the new billionaires out in public so much.

Someone more acceptable than either for middle America could percolate out of the GOP but the GOP base is really stuck on what makes deSantis and Trump possible.

Ignorance makes Trump & DeSantis possible regardless of geography. We have Trumpers in every state the key ingredient is ignorance and fear.

                          Yeah, like victimhood and racism*

*Cue the chorus that the GQP isn't racist. Yeah right and please tell me how all that voter suppression activity in communities of color is only about election security for events that don't happen, and when they do it is in numbers that could be counted on a single hand, maybe two hands at best.

This is true, of course, but it's worse than that. The GfckingOP is systematically, methodically, organizing all of their quiver of election stealing tools, gerrymandering in states, to take over state governor and legislative offices, to enforce even more election stealing stuff, like voter ID and polling places open only to voters with POVs, whichever way they can bias the elections, state and local as well as the general national election. They are determined to install R majorities everywhere, which gives them the appointments for federal judges below the SCOTUS, too. And it is all in the collective effort to do away with all our democratic institutions. This is where the SCOTUS came from that took away Roe, and is now abrogating the EPA and clean water act, deregulating business, doubling down on tax cuts for the rich and corporations, and etc.

The Republicans, trmp and desantis and every R downstream from them is intent on the same deal, and we lose freedom and democracy for our children if we don't get Democratic majorities enough to counter that and pass legislation we all want, according to everyone who takes polls about such things, like real gun reform, and etc.

well dang diggity to address the issues of victimhood aka dignity as measured by infinite growth for the middle class then the finite asset pie can’t be divied up for the upper crust and corporate interests which both parties are party to.

Yes, yes the Republican Party skews more towards corporate interests and the 1% while playing the populists song and the Democratic Party does embrace gov’ts function of promoting the general welfare better but when the rubber meets the road short term reward and the next quarterly statement for corporate interests wins over an ambivalent electorate. Which gives a 10% dedicated electorate oversized influence and effing insane culture war platforms that totally avoid core issues of national security or “family values” like eldercare, education, general health, maternal care and childcare. You know, chit that matters. Stuff that prevents people from going under and losing dignity and livelihood.

                                It’s effing insane.

Oh right, we just need infinite growth again for the middle class. Like when America was great. Rising tide covers all metaphors.
