  • Oh yeah. And the bees

I get up at the place yesterday for an unexpected cooler than usual weekend. I open it up and go spend most of the day working in the conex.

When I come back in the afternoon, the cabin has somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 to 500 bees in it. Huh. Heck of a noise.

I slowly come up the stairs and they’re all over the roof and windows just making an awful racket and dozens and dozens are flying into the open garage door. Fortunately, they’re not very aggressive. And I have a cuppa coffee while I watch them.

I wasnt sure if it was going to work, but I figured smoke might calm them down. Since they were swarming, I didn’t know if they had a hive to go back to the eat honey to make them more lethargic but it was worth a shot.

I fire up the Coleman, camp stove and throw a few scrap pieces of pine on, the place gets good and smoky and sure enough they calm right down and start to leave.

Feeling pretty clever I go about my business. I come back up in an hour or so after the fire is gone out and they’re back in full force. We do this two more times and finally as evening starts to set they decide they don’t wanna set up camp here and go home wherever that is.

I’ve opened up again this morning and there are a few scouts, but nothing like yesterday.

because surely only the animal man has any rights..

and don't forget the unintended consequences..

so yes, I'm glad you used less extreme measures.. (-:

      What is the conex?
There is nothing quite as permanent as a good temporary repair.

The shipping container. I’m insulating it and finishing the inside.

I'm glad you were kind to the bees.
They have no evil intent, just looking for a decent place to live.
If you let them get used to you, they'll crawl over your arms and tickle you. After a while, and with a bit of smoke, you should be able to take some of their stash, as long as you aren't too greedy. The big trick that I've found is let them get used to you, and wear light colored clothing. Apparently it's a hereditary bee thing to be afraid of dark colored upright creatures..... Bears....

Call a bee guy. Couple of years aho an apartment building near us had a swarm on a balcony. A bee guy sucked them up with a sort of low pressure vacuum. Took them away to his property for release.

Bees are good. No bees, no pollination. No pollination no plants (Except Cargill, and Monsanto). No plants no food. Not even beef or Venison. Yeah butterflies, wasps, and a westerly breeze, but Bees do the yeoman's job.

Heck. I even let the bastard wasps live. At a distance. Anything that eats spiders is ok in my book.

                        Yesterday was World Bee Day.

Humans introduced them to this hemisphere, they weren't native here. Our native plants seemed to do just fine without them before they were brought here.

Commercial large scale agriculture would not be sans bees.

I would not be surprised to discover that Big Ag is financing the invention of drone bees, likely designed by AI.

Hopefully here will be a better spot for them.
                              Spraying lawns should be illegal.
