Re: Does any logical adult honestly think tfg could get re-elected?
.
The population of American adults has dumbed down precipitously in my lifetime."They have a lot of stupid people that vote in their primaries. They really do. I'm not really supposed to say that but it's an obvious fact. But when stupid people vote, you know who they nominate? Other stupid people." -- James Carville on the plethora of low-quality GQP candidates in the mid-term election.Comment

Looking at what DeSatan is doing in Florida; his admiration for Orban, and following that 'example'; his ongoing fight with Disney; his assault on education - the thought of him having the power of the Presidency, the national canvas - that's unthinkable. Perhaps, un-survivable.There's a lot of things they didn't tell me when I signed on with this outfit....Comment

Re: Does any logical adult honestly think tfg could get re-elected?
TFG got elected once because no sane folks thought it could happen. The dems need to be very careful about misunderestimating his appeal to broad swath of the Fox News, MAGA, evangelical, white supremacist ignorant in this country.
On the other hand; DeSantis would probably be far more damaging than TFG. De Santis is much smarter, much more educated and far more calculating than TFG.
The dems need to hammer home the issues that are turning voters off to the GOP and they need to be relentless up and down the ticket from county clerk, dog catcher and the parking authority all the way through county commissioners, school boards, local and state reps.....
The GOP is toxic and the dems need to remind voters of the fact all day every day from now until the election day.
We ignore the danger of the crazy right wing at our peril.Comment

Once again: 45% of the electorate will vote Republican no matter what; 45%-ish of the electorate will vote Democratic no matter what; the battle is for the remainder 10%, which bizarrely includes those who are 'undecided', which shows you how the American education system has failed for the last 50 years.Gerard>

Re: Does any logical adult honestly think tfg could get re-elected?
I think it's pretty unlikely he could get reelected. His legal troubles are one factor; lots of things going on, and it's a long time until the election. He could have multiple indictments, even convictions, by November of next year. Another thing is that he was a bit of an unknown wild card in 2016, and there were folks willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because they didn't like Hillary Clinton. That's most certainly no longer the case; the redhat True Believers are still on board, but he's all too well known. And a major change is that he's gotten crazier, and much less coherent. I'm not sure of the cause, but even compared to 2016, he really seems to be slipping. He's 76, remember, and not particularly healthy. I'd guess that the most likely thing is that he'd retain his die-hard support, but lose enough of other voters that he'd lose pretty badly. I know a fair number of conservative Republicans who swear they'll never vote for him again; they might stay home, but won't vote for Trump. And a Trump candidacy would definitely unify Democrats and get them to vote.
OTOH, the prospect of a second Trump presidency with him in his current state doesn't bear contemplating. The odds may be long, but it would be pretty awful. And there's always the prospect of something random and unforeseen; Biden having a heart attack, or getting stuck by a meteorite, or God knows what. Another problem is that whatever happens, Trump probably won't admit he lost. His mental illness (and yes, that's not too strong a term for Narcissistic Personality Disorder) doesn't allow it. That is, to put it mildly, not a good thing; a functioning democracy absolutely requires that the losing candidate concede."For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations,
for nature cannot be fooled."

soon, due very generally to liberal suckassedness, the various investigations and potential legal prosecutions of trump, will be put on hold; so as to not have an 'untoward' effect on our democracy

Unlikely. A Very Bad Idea if it does happen, no question."For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations,
for nature cannot be fooled."
