  • representing a highpoint in united statesian culture and society

    bano.jpg

back when we built park restrooms and bathhouses that looked this; rather than the row of 'portapotties' so often seen now at the edge of parking lots at parks, trailheads, boat ramps and such. . .
Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

As a native NYer I can tell you every "secrete" bathroom location in the city. Every hotel, every high end public restroom, every restaurant, every bar etc. I know which ones have the really nice thick paper hand towels and which ones are good for #1 one and one for a comfortable #2

A prime example of a nice public restroom is the one in Bryant Park.

Bryant Park's famous luxurious and landmarked public bathrooms just got a $300,000 upgrade and are even more fabulous than ever. Take a look inside.

Porta Potties are a real boon. No more having to keep track of where the public rest rooms are in a neighborhood - just find a construction site and bring your own TP.
A society predicated on the assumption that everyone in it should want to get rich is not well situated to become either ethical or imaginative.

There's a certain other forum out there that has a thread entitled "toilets of Asia" or something like that. It ain't pretty... 'specially the China photos.

WPA in #1 right? WPA stonework is as close to eternal as anything we build.

If I were to identify the biggest change in China in the past thirty years it would undoubtedly be the public toilets.

Porta-Johns in parks, etc.. The free market approach via privatization of services.
