  • Anyone know about Total Adblock?

This keeps popping up on my screen. It seems to be the only ad that keeps popping up.
"Banning books in spite of the 1st amendment, but refusing to regulate guns in spite of "well regulated militia' being in the 2nd amendment makes no sense. Can't think of anyone ever shot by a book

I get similar, but like the spoilers on the forum it's better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

        John,
Is this on a computer or phone?
        What browser do you use?

Just a day or so ago, I realized that a new ad thingy was annoyingly popping up when looking at the boat forum on my iphone. Looked up ad blocker review online, downloaded a free app from the apple store, and after a quick and EZ install, no more ads, annoyance gone. Yay. Maybe that's what where you're at, John?

I get two 'panels' of adds...one embedded into the WBF page right below the last post on the page (just now Im looking at a bearded Kevin Rudd/NAB), and the other is a pop up panel which changes frequently (right now advertising Microsoft Azure).

I'd be happy to pay for no ads.

There's spam threads still floating around above decks. No one is cleaning out rude posts in the bilge. And then there's this goofy ad that slides down on my phone. Okeedoke. Carry on.

Seems the only ad popping up is for Total Adblock.

Geeks are coming Saturday morning for another issue, I'll add this to the list.

Re: Anyone know about Total Adblock?

I tried it for a week, got annoyed it was blocking stuff it shouldn't. So I pitched it.

Now I'm seeing adds for all kinds ca*p from TEMU.

Junk. Nothing I'd ever buy or even want to know about. There's even Google adds at the top of these Forum pages the last couple days & I'm using Safari for PT's sake.

'Net's turning into one big stinking rag w/all the c*@p ads.

Re: Anyone know about Total Adblock?

I've been using AdBlock on both computer and phone for many years now. I never see the stuff at the bottom of this page. I never see ads in my browser (Safari), and FireFox has its own built in advertising block.

The worst place I see ads is on FB on my phone. Nearly every other posting on FB on the phone is an ad, or spam of some kind. Strangely, even those FB internally generated ads don't show up on the laptop version of FB.

I do identify all FB internal ads as Spam, and the religious, conservative politics and medical ones as Scam. I personally believe that there should be no advertising for any kind of medical information - neither prescription nor counter culture. And I often also mark the mainstream and sometimes even the progressive ones as scam as well.
A society predicated on the assumption that everyone in it should want to get rich is not well situated to become either ethical or imaginative.

It seems to have 'kicked in' and working, so I guess I'm good.

Re: Anyone know about Total Adblock?

This was a strange experience. I clicked on and found I had this. I bought it last year, but my subscription had run out. I bought another year via a card attached to my credit union. Credit union sent me a fraud alert and a phone number. Their computer was having problems and they asked me to call back. I messaged the CU and told them I made the purchase, but if they have a reason to believe it's fraudulent cancel.

Because of the fraud alert, they had automatically put my payment on 'hold' so ADBLOCK hadn't received it. This morning I went to my CU account and they had unblocked the transaction and all is working well now.

I've been using Adblock plus in conjunction with Firefox for quite a few years and it works.I have no doubt they harvest my browsing data for some form of use.I also use the setting to delete all cookies when I close Firefox.I had high hopes for Brave but when I tried it I got endless messages about crypto apps.
