  • The Civil War has already begun...

We just haven't recognized it yet.
    Consider:

Team Red is opposed to: mental health care for children; red flag laws; background checks; licenses to carry, and safety training for said licenses.

Team Red is in favor of: license free gun ownership; open carry laws.

    Now consider:
The vast majority of mass shooting events occur in: public schools; Walmarts; shopping centers; movie theaters.
The majority of people in these venues are members of Team Blue, or children of members of Team Blue.

Conclusion: vastly more members of Team Blue are killed in mass shootings than are members of Team Red.

The shooting began quite a while ago. We just didn't see it for what it was. Comments welcome.
“Aren’t you supposed to be the gentlemen who lie for the good of their country?”
    “That’s diplomats. We’re not gentlemen.”
“So you lie to save your hides.”
    That’s politicians. Different game entirely.”

And Team Red is trying to deny the vote to Team Blue.

If you are wrong, it is one heck of a coincidence. It isn't coordinated, yet, and is mostly the more extreme, deeply disturbed Team Red members, but the association is undeniable.

Um - Walmarts? Mostly 'team blue'? Pull the other one, Waldo.

Nah. The political division is mostly rural-urban. When someone goes bonkers and starts shooting people more or less at random, they almost always do it locally. They don't travel from the country to the big city, or do anything else to seek out people with different political opinions.

There are some exceptions to local randomness - religiously-motivated attacks on mosques (although Muslims are not that likely to be politically liberal), or occasionally a synagogue, and sometimes a racially-motivated attack. Otherwise, no.

And the overwhelming majority of murders aren't the kind of mass shootings that make the news. Mass shooting deaths per year are a couple of hundred at the most. There are some 25,000 homicides in the US per year.

Not news to me, as my posts will attest. In some ways its never stopped, just gone underground.
Reports here of RW white supremacist connections to the Allen shootings.

Wouldn't a civil war require some sort of organization? Are you implying that the Republican Party is dispatching these shooters .

Maybe you should look at the data more closely. Most gun homicides happen in cities. Blue cities though some of the blue cities are in Red states. The highest number of annual mass shooting fatalities since 1982 was 117 people - the number of black on black murders is about 2800 on any given year. The civil war is going on in the cities. Most US cities hover at around 20% black, but black on black homicide accounts for about 40% of the murders. Think about the significance of this.

Does that hold true on a per capita basis? There are more people in cities, so if shootings were equally distributed within the population, then there would be more in cities.

Most cities are about 20% black but the black-on-black homicides are about 40%. So double the probability

80% of the people in the US live in cities. But you're quite correct that mass shootings are a tiny percentage of murders, for all the publicity they get; well under 1%. The ancient rule still applies: dramatic bad news sells papers - or attracts TV viewers, or gets clicks on the web, take your pick.

There are large regional differences. Here it is again.:

There is no question that black-on-black crime is a spike in the statistics, although not so often mass killings, and that it is under-reported compared to black-on-white and white-on-white crime, but the question remains that the concentration of killings in the cities may be little more than a reflection of the population density.

Willie Sutton, when asked "Why do you rob banks?" answered "Because that's where the money is!" Well, if asked the question "Why are there so many murders in the cities?" and the answer is "That's where the people are."

Don't need organisation when you've got the internet and social media………………

While I agree with you, I wonder if you can pronounce that big word. The one that starts with an "S", not a "T".
