There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled. -
Re: Chucks new hat..
For a few seconds I was a few feet from Charles and Diana when they visited Canada in 1991. Only a flimsy, low, temporary retaining fence separating us. He was gracious, she was radiant. That's about as well as I got to know them personally. There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. Re: Chucks new hat..
I saw Charles and Dianna a couple of times in Ottawa, as I recall, they weren’t attracting much of a crowd. I have mixed feelings about the monarchy. Show me something better, l might bite, but spare me the republican drivel.Comment

In some respects, it seems better to have a head of state with no real power, all show and ceremony, than to have a president. Charles can be above it all in a way no elected official can.On the trailing edge of technology.

Re: Chucks new hat..
He'll see the PM once a week. Secretly. What goes on there? No-one knows.
He'll send spidery written letters, concealed from the public eye.
There's influence. Of course.
Me? Well simply guillotine the lot of them, and then follow that by guillotining those who say 'but what about president Blair, huh?'
...Because that's not the way it would go.
There are countries which work perfectly well without this insanity.

Re: Chucks new hat..
It is refreshing to have someone who can rise above the grubby parliamentarianism or republicanism, though for myself in Canada it's hard to think of him as a real king. More like a historical re-enactment of a king, like someone dressing up as the town cryer for festive occasions. There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. Nauseating anachronism but, hey, that's entertainment!
Now, why did almost every female guest have a hat mounted at about 45 degrees and why was Nick Cave invited? Sammy Kerr kicked another goal for best outfit. My only other thought was, when will they fix up the abbey floor and get rid of that trip hazard?Rick

Re: Chucks new hat..
I'm not a fan of the monarchy and I don't understand the British fascination with it, but I do have a question:
I can't help but notice that a lot of British headliners refused the request to perform at the coronation.
Why is it that so many of the British (or English) people dislike Charles? Is it because of Diane? Is it the monarchy? Is it just Charles in general?
I can't see through my general ambivalence to see what they seem to be seeing."Where you live in the world should not determine whether you live in the world." - Bono
