I wanted a pair of sneakers like my son just bought. Sketchers Go-Walk 5 Demitasse. Long name for cheap shoes.

I went to Amazon. My size $64.95. Seemed like a decent price, delivery would take 10 days. At the bottom it said “Sold by Zappos”
So I went to the Zappos website. Same shoes, $48. Delivery in 2 days.
At the bottom it said, “Delivery by Amazon”.

I’m thoroughly confused.

Just talked to a friend who ordered two round elec outlets for his boat. On the package it said they required a 2-1/8” hole saw. So he ordered a a 2-1/8” hole saw, went to his boat and drilled two holes. The outlets won’t fit in the holes. He’s confused too.

I ordered something from Amazon, and it was shipped by Home Depot. It was considerably cheaper than Home Depot, though.

I have ordered stuff from Amazon, and it literally has been delivered (free because I am a Prime member) in 2 hours. The Post Office takes for ever, days - Amazon should show the USPS how to get it done. It amazes me how they get stuff deliverd so fast.

They get the stuff delivered so fast because they run their own warehouse and delivery trucks which do nothing but deliver stuff you order from Amazon. Are you sure you think the Post Office should "learn a thing or two" from Amazon?

weird thing is that Zappo's is owned by Amazon. Has been since 2009.

Thing is, Amazon, Zappos, and other online retailers have pricing engines and models that track your behaviour and adjust prices dynamically, in response to what you've been doing. Kind of like the way airline websites modify prices on the fly.

I dunno - is it that much different than walking into a store and seeing something on sale that's being sold down the street for $20 more? More complicated, but fundamentally the same.

Makes sense. A modern version of dickering in the market place. You didn't bite the first time, maybe this offer will get you. They don't care much, as long as you buy the product.

It is different from buying from bricks and mortar stores that show large differences in price, because the two sources are the same entity at the top.
