    Re: Internet Shopping

I've found that in many cases, I can buy from Amazon or some other retailer cheaper than directly from the producer's website. In many other cases the prices are exactly the same.

Often the manufacturer has to charge higher prices than their retailers for the simple reason that if they charged less and were cannibalizing their retailers, they'd pretty quickly have no retailers.

[and if you shop around, you might notice that Bezos' prices aren't actually all that great. All that shipping and logistics to get it to you in a day or two doesn't come cheap.]

"How to get it done" is blatant worker exploitation and dehumanization and aggressive anti-union action, combined with aggressive use of automation that is replacing even those sh!tty jobs with no job at all for many people. Do you really want that model to expand its reach into the rest of the world?

I've bought BMW car parts online cheaper from America than I could get them from Germany.

ISTR reading the U.S.P.S. is the largest mail/pkg delivery system in the world.. and does a pretty damn good job - in spite of Rep meddling.

and the ad bots are insane. idily wondering on.. well, leave that alone, I shall.

So I went to the Zappos website. Same shoes, $48. Delivery in 2 days.

Cheap shoes? Yep made like cheap shoes probably cost them less than $5 to make.
I've never paid more than half the $64 for shoes, for properly (machine) made leather shoes not sneakers.

                    Re: Internet Shopping

5 or 6 years ago I bought a cider press. The mfr is in Kansas & sells direct online, but also through some other outlets. All the others selling it had the same price as the mfr - except for a British company. I bought it from them, it was shipped from Kansas to Vermont (not by way of Britain), & it was $300 less.

I'm guessing they just made less on it - but I was good with saving 20 percent.
