Re: Kubota v John Deere - opinions?

I steer with the brakes when moving wood through the bush in the carryall and no front counterweight.
Left hand on the wheel, right hand on the 3point control.
Right foot heel on the Forward-Reverse treadle, right foot toe on one of the steering brakes.
Left foot unemployed. The clutch is right there, but the F-R is easier.
I could probably hold forward speed with "cruise control",but prefer the instant stop/ deadman☠️ of the F-R pedal
I do it the same when discing my garden.

If it sounds sketchy,it is a bit,but is low range low rpm crawling.
A front counterweight changes all that, but it's tiresome without power steering.
I experimented with a front carrier that when loaded with wood gave me the counterweight I needed, but it's bulky.
I will probably build a bush bar grille protector that flips down forward to use as a carrier.

Fortunately for me I do have the sweep oar out the back, takes some contortion but swinging that a few degrees will steer the thing when the front is light.
My fore ballast is THE ROCK, when I remember to load it. It takes a bit of scraping and wheezing to get it normally, and my wife likes the look of it for purposes of 'landscaping' but no, it is in fact THE ballast ROCK.

Re: Kubota v John Deere - opinions?

I put the Cub Cadet zero turn Pro Z154S mower on the market at about 7pm last night and was loading it onto a buyers ute by about midday today. Sold for the asking price which just happened to be the same price that I paid for it almost two years ago, so I’m pretty happy about that. They’ve gone up in price about $4k in that time.

So I’m pretty pleased that, despite being a little annoyed with myself for chopping and changing to try and settle on something that will see us out on this block, I haven't lost a dime on any off the exchanges and I think I’m actually a little in profit overall...

Now I’m just waiting for the Kubota dealer to get the industrial bar tyres in for my new B2601 so that I can drive down to West Gosford in New South Wales to pick it up...

I am pretty chuffed with this - despite the other than expected tyres

After an eight hour drive down to Gosford in NSW to take delivery it turned out that they’d stuffed up with my tyres - they’d fitted narrow agricultural tyres instead of the industrial tyres that I’d asked for. It may have been partly my own fault - ......

I had specifically asked for the industrial tyres when I first spoke to them and they referred to them as bar tyres so I accepted that just meant the same thing and I started calling them bar tyres myself. Either way I had to wait for the tyres to be delivered and fitted and when I arrived to pick it up they were wrong.

To then get the industrials would be another 6 week wait and another 8 hour drive each way to pick it up so my only real option was to take it with the original turf tyres. That’s what I had on my old tractor so I know they’ll do the the job but I’d have much preferred the industrials with the slightly more aggressive tread.......I’ll see how it goes.

Odd, I posted the above last night but it doesn’t seem to have appeared in my quick link of recent posts - still sitting on page two...??

Shame about the confusion but the machine looks great. I had dreamed about perhaps having turf tyres like that for winter.
Instead, I changed the way I use the machine, stay off the wear areas for wet weather which, come to think of it , is all the time.

Kubota is almost a synonym for flip-flops here, can't go wrong with them

Those turf tires will do fine in the back, but I'd put ATV,AG, or "Bar" tires on the front.
in the times when you really need getty up and go. it's the front tires that do the grabbing. I'd like Ag tires on the back of my 855, but the cost! And the times I need the grip I usually have a load in the front bucket, so the ATVs I have do the job.
On the big 2wd tractor, I have heavy AG tires on the rear, and regular car tires on the front. Not optimal, but it works out most of the time. I'd really like row fronts, but they cost a fortune these days.

Glad you got it! The turf tires will do fine - at least for a while.

Re: Kubota v John Deere - opinions?

                        Or... stop mowing?

In 2017 I bought a JD garden tractor just before I retired while the money was flowing. An X330. But it was for snowblowing -- ESSENTIAL where I live. The fact that it also cut grass was irrelevant. And somewhat irritating, because Robin now expected the "verge to be trimmed", when it most emphatically had not been before.

And now, as I mow over the burgeoning wildflowers, and toads and frogs, and such, I have doubts about the wisdom of my decision.

Until January. Then, I'm solidly reinforced.

Perhaps I simply need to sell the mower deck.
