    Re: Porsche thread

Still the apple of my eye after all these years. 2006 Cayman S, silver over coco leather, 6sp over 3 pedals, easy to drive, well balanced with engine dead center, plenty of grunt and top end to spare. Miss that dog though.

Here's one of the few Porsche 901s to get delivered before Peugeot issued their objection to having the "0" in the middle of the designation. As I recall, this was found in a barn near Reno with big IMSA flares and wide tires, but all the castings have the correct "901" designations. This was from a Vintage race at PIR about 1988.

Painted bumper indicates that the original chrome bumper rusted through ... They are apparently wonderful to drive, somewhat similar to Cayman / Boxter, very neutral weight distribution, but most of them rusted like hell. So, it is rare to see one today.

Ja'hear about the handyman who knocked on a door looking for work?

Homeowner says, "I guess you could paint my porche".

Handy man comes back to say "porche all done. Actually it's a BMW."

I've been in the market for a 914 for a while, not many good candidates up here in the land of road salt! Have fellow in the next town that specializes in them but most of his that he would sell are carp. All the good ones he sells to the states southern...

914s are great cars! I wish I'd bought one when they were considered crap. In the early 80s you could buy a decent condition used one in Connecticut for a couple grand. Less than a new VW....

You and I must sometime meet and relive the old days. All the cars I scrapped and all I passed on are all the winning cars . I could have been rich had I not scrapped those and bought the others I passed on. I would be rich. Our days in the 60's and 70's were definitly the golden ages! I gave away 3 vw panels for free to clean out the back yard to please my new wife and the young men that picked them up looked at me as I was insane. Now that I see what I gave away I think that I maybe was!

What's the difference between a Porsche and a Porcupine?

With the Porsche the prick is on the inside.

That's a BMW joke and becoming much more of a Landrover one..

Nah, the Land Rover joke is this. "What do you call a Land Rover that doesn't leak? Empty"

Sadly, I have no pictures from back then. I had two. a 1970 914 in Yellow that was almost as rotted as the in the first post. Mine just looked good but was ready to fold in half. The other was a mostly pristine 1972 911E. I had that car 6 months when the rocker shaft on the passengerside head broke. At least I sold the car what I bought it for. It was a lovely signal orange.

I then discovered that Italian cars were cheaper to buy, insure, and repair.

                                Re: Porsche thread

I think it is interesting that you can sense the lower CG in every Porsche I have ridden in (914, 911S, Carrera Turbo S, Carrera 4S, Cayman S) even from the passenger seat. Mostly I suppose because of the reduced roll, but even in very low speed corners the low CG is very apparent.

Something less than 4 years ago, and at least partly because of the thread Talking about Porsches (woodenboat.com), this showed up for the left garage bay:

                                Offloading low 2019-10-08 Inverted.jpg

I spent a couple of years debating the pros and cons for various alternatives, and one day the right one showed up on BAT: 2007 Porsche Cayman S 6-Speed

I could go on and on about the handling, sound (PSE!), throttle response, brakes, and steering feel (and I have, right here: BaT Auction Success Story: A Cayman Daily for a Car-Loving Spouse | Bring a Trailer) but the most surprising thing was just how pleasant it is to toodle around the local equestrian communities just looking at the horses and the homes and the horses again at a breathtaking pace of 5-10 MPH.

I have however used Google Maps to locate the extremely rare curvy roads and well, it has seen quite a few 2-3 & 3-4 shifts at 7,000 RPM

I think it would be very difficult to find a better adrenaline inducer for less money.
