  • Stop saying you researched it.

Because, likely, you didn't. In fact, few of us have the time to actually research any number of issues. We're lucky if we manage to do so with a few, closely related, issues that we've taken a particular long-term (and intellectually rigorous) interest in.

But we can do casual research, if we start with a hypothesis... which we accept may be right, wrong, or partly each. And if we follow the skeptical spirit of the actual research process --

Please stop saying you researched it.

You didn’t research anything and it is highly probable you don’t know how to do so.

Did you compile a literature review and write abstracts on each article? Or better yet, did you collect a random sample of sources and perform independent probability statistics on the reported results? No?

Did you at least take each article one by one and look into the source (that would be the author, publisher and funder), then critique the writing for logical fallacies, cognitive distortions and plain inaccuracies?

Did you ask yourself why this source might publish these particular results?

Did you follow the trail of references and apply the same source of scrutiny to them?

No? Then you didn’t … research anything. You read or watched a video, most likely with little or no objectivity. You came across something in your algorithm manipulated feed, something that jived with your implicit biases and served your confirmation bias, and subconsciously applied your emotional filters and called it proof.

Please stop saying you researched it. You didn’t research anything and it is highly probable you don’t know how to do so. | Linda Gamble Spadaro

Nice synopsis, David. Yep - it's exhausting. After the latest go-round here, I immediately ran into a pt of a similar bent, who proceeded to lecture me on DMII and txments. I gave him Ted's number.
There's a lot of things they didn't tell me when I signed on with this outfit....

The original source omitted examining the materials and methods (0r equivalent) section.

Nah. 'Research' isn't binary; it's something you can do a little of or a lot, well or badly. Looking it up in Wikipedia is 'research'. So is working for five years looking up every bit of human knowledge about something.

I learned how to cure myself from farting using WebMD. Glad to have that resource. Thank goodness as to see my general practitioner requires 4 months to get an appointment. There was no copay involved.
Without friends none of this is possible.

Actually, I have researched that issue at length including using my own body as a "guinea pig" and you might be on to something, I am convinced fart is in fact diet related
exercise however, can worsen the condition

As the OP states... we can do casual research. But that's harder to do 'well'.

What is more interesting is that few people use the term "research".

I did watch a video on backpacking stoves yesterday. The fellow did a nice set of experiments. In prior videos he talked about the compilation of nutritional data for backpacking foods.

I don't do much research, but I do learn a lot from people with expertise that they share on youtube.
                          Life is complex.

                            'Worsen the condition'?
Meaning you stop farting,or you fart more?
                            Or they smell worse,or ...better(lilacs,!??)

Depends on the subject. If you want to know the date of the battle of Antietam and who won, a quick check of Wikipedia or something similar will be fine. If you want to have a fairly clear idea about the link between type II diabetes and behavior, it will take more work, and your degree of confidence in what you find can vary a lot. Again, not binary at all.
