just sayin>>Questions over whether Biden should seek re-election in 2024 have grown louder in recent weeks. A New York Times/Siena College poll taken this month found that 64% of Democrats say they would prefer a different nominee for 2024. Among Democrats under 30, that figure rises to 94%.

right. me too. i would "prefer a different nominee". whatever.

this is not a question of personal preferences. it is a question of consensus among a coalition of disparate voters. followed by the challenge of winning a national election. followed by the challenge of governing competently.

ain't it just like the left to drop the prize as soon as it is won. ooo, look, a squirrel.

The last bigotry permitted, and the deeper and more vicious for it.

Applies only to white males. They never complain of old colored people, or old women. They daren't. Unless they're young women, or Don Lemon.

I should be glad that in 2023, most young women – and many young men – throw the word feminism around like confetti. Thirty years ago, I longed for others to see the world as I did, and after all, there is still so much to be done. But, alas, this isn’t how I feel. Such talk sounds increasingly hollow; a question only of clever marketing. While the pressures on young women are greater than ever, many of their rights terrifyingly under threat, the bigger surprise is that I find myself on the receiving end of as much sexism and misogyny now as I did when my bum was pert and my breasts very bouncy – and nearly all of it comes from those far younger than me. Was the harassment I experienced when I was young better or worse than the dismissive contempt that’s aimed at me today? I’m not sure. All I know is that I’m far angrier now – and far more clear-sighted about the cause of that anger – than I ever was in the days when I campaigned for every female student to have a free rape alarm.

Victoria Smith, who is six years my junior, has written a book, Hags, that speaks directly to everything that I’ve just described. In its sights are those people who, even as they loudly proclaim their righteous politics, are apt to label older women as Karens and Terfs; who either roundly ignore or demonise the views of such women, however well-founded or based in experience; who write with open loathing of their bodies, their haircuts and their clothes; who struggle to acknowledge that they have benefited even the smallest bit from the legacy of those who went before them; who would, in effect, like women over the age of 45 either to shut up or to disappear altogether. It is, to be clear, a very good book, one that brilliantly and unrelentingly exposes all the weasel ways in which ageist misogyny enables regressive beliefs to be recast as progressive.

Funny, the previous president couldn't even walk well enough to keep up with Angela Merkel:

Donald Trump kept six world leaders waiting for a photo op at the G7 summit because he needed a golf cart to carry him 700 yards.

Theresa May and the heads of Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan took a stroll through Taormina, Sicily on Saturday to make their way to a piazza in the hilltop town while the President waited behind.

The episode came just days after Trump sent his daughter, Ivanka, to speak at an event in Saudi Arabia because he was too “exhausted” two days into a seven-day tour of the Middle East and Europe.

Time to revive a slogan --

Trump now has a track record in office.

He's not longer a 'pig in a poke'.

                He's just a pig.

Maybe the Dems could be inspired by Ireland?

That's the American Dream. The notion that - no matter who you are when you're born - if you're smart enough, hard-working enough, etc... you can be anything you wish to be (including President).

It's never been totally true. Track the Gini coefficient over time for a a rough idea of 'how' true. As with most places, it has always helped to be born into the right family. What the Acton Dictum describes is a time/trend where it - the AD - becomes less accurate.

I have no problem with Biden running again. He's done better than I expected during his first term, and I see no reason to believe that will change. I'd say keep the momentum going, while quietly keeping plan B updated. As I'm sure a few of the smarter Dems are.

                            From a month ago...

A poll shows only about half of Democrats think President Joe Biden should run again in 2024, but a large majority say they’d be likely to support him if he became the nominee

                                .
Yesterday morning, while walking Buddy, I chatted for only the second time with a neighbor who is also a UAW/Ford retiree. He asked me what I thought about the recent change in our mail-order prescription provider. I said I have encountered no problems. He agreed that he had not either. I then remarked that I was impressed by the UAW retiree healthcare plan. This seemed to make him uncomfortable and he began complaining that the UAW never endorses Republican political candidates. He then related a conversation he had with a friend who counseled him to "Give Biden some time." He remarked, "That's the last time I will talk to him!"

Right-wing MAGA types ALWAYS seem to bring up politics without prompting and rudely impose their unsolicited opinions. I do not argue with such mopes. There is no reasoning with them.

Two weeks ago I was at nearby bakery when the customer ahead of me went into a LOUD rant (directed at the women behind the counter) denouncing Democrats, the Deep State, Joe Biden, and it went on and on. The women working there kept telling him to stop... he ignored them and just kept ranting. Evidently he was familiar to the woman who was serving him. She was annoyed. The other customers in the store were annoyed. This fat old man could only walk with the assistance of a cane and required help taking his order to his vehicle. I say "old"... he may have been my age.

America has gone crazy in my lifetime.

But when stupid people vote, you know who they nominate? Other stupid people." -- James Carville on the plethora of low-quality GQP candidates in the mid-term election.
