seventy four degrees eff at sunrise
eighty degrees when i hit the 'murder grounds' trailhead at seven a.m.
ninety, when i made it back down off the mountain trails an hour later
headed for one hundred thirteen today

this girl and i passed in opposite directions in the brush less than ten feet from each other
    she was unfazed and unconcerned

Not me, but my older son. Out last weekend with a couple of friends in a bit of backwoods New Brunswick.

Here are some shots from recent hike with my daughters to Plattekill Falls, in the Catskill Mountains, NY.

This is one of 14 or 15 falls in the Plattekill Clove. Clove is a local term for gorge.

        Switchback

View. The trail is heavily forested, but there are some views. Pretty, huh?

I last hiked this trail 45 years ago.

The Plattekill Falls, not too spectacular as we are in a drought. Note my kids in the bottom left, for scale.

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

One of my favorite places to hike - only a few minutes from the house. It is a local conservation area and has one particularly nice view of an old quarry about 2/3 of the way along my normal loop.

fergus and i walked down and around our woods every day for ~18 months without fail until this july rolled around, after a peculiar spring....and then every morning it became like walking through shelob's lair to make the circuit through the woods. invisible webs across the face every few steps.

every day i would clear the path of webs and every night they would rebuild. until i gave up.

summer of the spider (and the fly) around here.

edit to add file photo of spring fawn

Looking towards Cape Kiwanda with Sand Lake in front from Cape Lookout. One of the muddiest hikes I have been on and not like I remembered 35 years ago.

This isn't really a hike, but a counterpoint perhaps.

are you posting from a iphone or ipad? there is some otherwise innocuous little bit of code the forum software doesn't much care for; the easiest workaround is to make a very very small cropof the photo then post it. making such an edit removes or alters that code enough so that the photo will post correctly here

i sliced one pixel off of your photo above and now it posts correctly

Thank you, Paul. Envision all the spots between roots full of mud and water for a mile or more and that was a part of the Cape Lookout hike.
