  • Re: More Republican Party Fracturing

And more signs of dissonance --

The pro-Trump Republican trying to upstage Cheney

Jim Banks is the head of the House GOP’s biggest caucus. He’s also earning another unofficial title: shadow chair of the House GOP Conference.

The Indiana Republican, who's made no secret of his future leadership ambitions, has used his new platform as chief of the Republican Study Committee to build a messaging operation to compete with that of Rep. Liz Cheney, the House GOP’s current — and embattled — conference chair.

On Banks’ watch, the RSC has begun blasting out weekly newsletters modeled after POLITICO Playbook that try to serve up a buzzy mix of politics, policy and personality. The RSC also regularly compiles talking points for its members that often get leaked to conservative media outlets. Banks crafted his own memo outlining his vision for the GOP’s future that won praise from top Republicans. And the RSC has also helped coordinate media opportunities for its members, with Banks routinely popping up in D.C.-based coverage himself.

Banks’ effort to assemble a rival messaging machine is widely viewed by his colleagues as an audition for Cheney’s job, which governs both communications and member services. That position may be available sooner than he expected: Tensions over Cheney’s outspoken criticism of former President Donald Trump are once again at a boiling point inside the GOP conference, with some senior Republicans predicting she’ll be pushed out of leadership before month’s end.

As new knives are taken out for the House GOP's No. 3 leader, Rep. Jim Banks is on the rise.

Question is gonna be whether she gets kicked out of the caucus, not merely the leadership. In distinction from Goertz and Greene.

Bull S, yes you do. If you really really don't know you better really really find out really really fast.

Yes. That's one way to look at the fracturing.

Those who weren't Too Deep into the downward spiral... and could see the wisdom... pulled up and are now circling. Trying to figure out a new course.

The others? Seeing no way out... they've pushed the stick forward, steepening the dive into a Kamikaze attack. The human brain is a marvelous and wonderful thing...

And not always in a good way.

You know, I never thought I would say admiring things about Liz Cheney, of all people.

Doesn't look like much fracturing is going on, just a descent into unified political vandalism and chaos.

                  Right.

They aren't fracturing. The Trump wing is coalescing it's base & power, weeding out the RINOs & semi-sane ones in preparation for a complete takeover 6-12 months before the midterms. They will have money, strong support & will be blitzing the country.

We're just seeing little skirmishes of cleansing the party to lull the rest of us into a false sense of security.

She actually supports democracy. The fact that I find that both admirable and surprising in a prominent Republican politician tells us quite a lot.

no, she doesn’t. She opposes the big lie, but is just fine with republican efforts to reduce democracy.

at this point the bilge perma sunshine brigade is just as deluded as the trumpers.

She supports elections, and respecting the count.

I don't know her views on suppression, or gerrymandering, or other assorted attacks on free and fair elections.

The perfect is the enemy of the good. Still, I'd never expected myself to voice support for her. Not setting the bar very high? IMO the bar isn't even a bar anymore; it's a line in the sand.

I think, perhaps, it's easy right now to confuse a lack of well-earned contempt with admiration. They are not the same thing.

But then, with virtually no models on the "admiration" side of things available, I sometimes find myself making the same mistake.
