Discovered that the cat had been peeing on the living room rug for the last few days. Sprayed the rug with vinegar water. Disciplined the cat.

Made a birthday card for a friend of 55 years.

Did my PT exercises.

I managed to make a pepperoni and Swiss cheese sandwich for lunch, which is a good start to the day, and poor a thermos of iced tea for later. Now if I can only hold out and not eat it for another 2 hours...

I'm writing a paper so far this AM and just finished a first draft on the core section, but I'll switch over to graphing calibrations in a minute to I can clear that directory for processing.

I've got a young student telling me he thinks an old code is buggy. Sadly, he's a sharp tack and I suspect he is probably right. That's not a good start to the day.

I guess that's a rather cryptic response, but I doubt anyone really wants to know more.

Oh, I'm also reading The Bilge, so I have that going for me...

Built a fire in the Franklin stove to take the edge off 45 degrees in a cottage in Mid-coast Maine. Made coffee, pulled up assorted news on line, and logged on to the Bilge.

Nup. She knows. The problem is she's 18, and systems are beginning to fail - like kidneys, and stomach.

Getting old isn't easy and when kidneys fail that's mostly the end of the story.

Cooked a pound of bacon and only ate one piece for quality-control, dropped littlegirl at school, quoted a $500k project, and haven't yet ridiculed anyone for spelling anything phonetically.

Kidney failure took 3 out of our 4 boys. It's the last obligation of pet ownership and one that still brings me sadness whenever I think about it.

Yeah. I think I've lost every cat but two to it. That's something like 10 cats over the last 60 years. My cats live a long time, too, 17-21 years.

I won't miss this cat, she only arrived here last July and she's not a cuddler, doesn't purr. Strange cat, but her owner passed on and his kids live in Wales and Oregon, so somebody had to step up and take her off their hands for the final years.
