Finished the ramrod for the cannon and the sheaves for 2 single and 2 double blocks. Begun the shot retrieval scoop. Put the waders on and retrieved branches from the dam. Got rather cold and wet despite so had a double shot in front of the fire.

MA has fence viewers? VT does too & I was one - but never had to do anything. What's involved in your report?

I had to look at the fence, take pictures, measurements, consult with the Town Building Department, look a permit and plans, and make a determination with respect to the complaint. As there are attorneys involved, that is all.

Never had a fence someone complained about in my little town.

                      And nothing has since then.

                      • Re: What have you achomlished today?

I'm making new jigs and fixtures for my eagerly anticipated basement shop space. It has taken us the better part of two years to prepare the space which came with and retains a number of highly limiting and inherent flaws. Still, it's much better than not having a shop space at all. Yesterday I made a shooting board and a crosscut sled for my little job site saw but most of my precision work must now be done by hand. Still, it's wonderful to have any shop space again but I am starting from scratch. I sold my heavy machine tools when we moved here from Seattle as they didn't make sense to move across the country. I'm struggling with the new shop layout as our 600 SF stone and mortar basement is riddled with supporting columns that get in the way of everything and for which there is no practical solution. There' also no outside access which means everything I bring in must be dragged through the house and down a small set of stairs that has its own limits. But at least I am able to do the basics without having to drag tools outside to work in the crippling southern sun and humidity. And the mosquitoes! Unfortunately, access issues limit what I can stuff into this downstairs space. My situation does force me to tune up my hand tool skills, and I've been enjoying that. Cutting and planing by hand slows progress but as ya'll know, there is satisfaction in hand work while not relying on machine tools to do it all. It gives an excuse to flush out my collection with new Veritas and LN tools to augment my existing arsenal. My recently acquired Lee Valley LA jack preparing stock for a picture frame! Very nice addition which is slated mostly for use with the shooting board but also does double duty as a jointer.

I'm very excited about this development as it's been seven years since I have had a permanent space for my tools or even a small layout table/workbench.

I've had a bite, walked the hounds and now I'm enjoying my only coffee of the day. This afternoon I've got time for my nap and a dentist appt. There I'll find out how many $$$$ it's going to cost to replace my failed dental bridge. Then the rest of the day is free for puttering in the shop and more dog walks.
