Newport RI or Nearby
I may be visiting soon. Looking for the best classic boat museum or similar. I've already been to the Herreshof Museum and Mystic. Might have half a day on either end of other commitments. Thanks.Tags: None -

You missed this last Friday but it may be worth stopping in to see what they have: https://www.audrainautomuseum.org/au...nufacturing-coFor the most part experience is making the same mistakes over and over again, only with greater confidence. -

Re: Newport RI or Nearby
If you are looking for cutting edge or huge, then the Newport Shipyard at the NE corner of Newport harbor. Look at the boats through the fence and see if you can read a name, then mumble that name to the security guard. Or there's the old USN complex at Melville, which has both NEB and Hinckley. There's no real security at either one.Comment

Re: Newport RI or Nearby
We went to the Audrain Museum, they had several Herreshof boats on display and some amazing cars. Saw 12m Heritage on the waterfront, some schooners sailing by etc.Comment

Re: Newport RI or Nearby
My college roommates daughter is crew on Heritage this summer. She spent the winter as crew on a big schooner (EROS) in the Caribbean and has been bitten by the sailing bug. Crewing on those boats is a good way for a young person to build some cash reserves since room and board are inclusive. Then tips can be substantial for great service and friendliness (especially to children). For the most part experience is making the same mistakes over and over again, only with greater confidence.Comment
