  • Re: Oz Connection

A little while ago my hard drive died ...all my own fault and I lost a few photos. I had backed up most of my files but not all. I have a few boat pics on Picturetrail that I'd like to drop here then copy back to my files ..... here we go .

The Fenwick Williams Annie Madoc at the Hobart WBF. She's a boat I very much like ...I wonder how she would go were she stretched a Little .She's 24 foot while at 28 foot she would be considerably slipperier. The Annie design is actually a 3/4 scale Atkin Eric 32 footer (if you do the numbers ) or very close there to .

Indeed it is Peter! here's me at the helm a few days later:

The mast IIRC is stepped onto the cabin top to give more room down below.

Great shots! Your Mirror looks really nice there Duncan too!

We had a really good sail today. There was a good NE blowing and a few friends out; overcast and then clear later, with strengthening wind. Perfect really!

We saw some sort of ray fly out of the water too. I'm not sure what - any ideas?

I saw a big manta fly out of the water in Tonga once but this one today wasn't very big - maybe 1m across. I'll have to see whether we ever get mantas or eagle rays here. My guess is an eagle ray or maybe just a stingray.

Right, then maybe it was a little manta. Good to see whatever it was!

I'd think some sort of predator would have been after them to cause them to jump like that.

The Masterchef got stung by a ray of some sort while he was over at Moreton painting for me.

He was lucky, it was a glancing blow.

He was in the water fishing at the time.

BTW, I rechristened him Steve immediately.

I picked up a mixed box of older tools at the knock at a big flea market today, $10 the lot. There's a complete but neglected Record plane, a wooden block plane and two blades and two good old chisel blades. A brace and some rasps too that I can see but the rest will wait for tomorrow. I was also given a wrecked ship model (barquentine) by a dealer I've bought stuff from before, Said he got it free and kept it for me. Nice xmas present eh?.
It's been hot and humid down here and suddenly has gotten hotter, I expect the cloud cover has come down lower, not much rain with it so far but if it breaks it'll be a doozy.

John just got chided for the size of the photos he has posted on his Egret thread.

The suggestion is the photos are too big.

What is the consensus here on size before I start my James Craig thread.

                      It will be photo heavy.

Rufus , i think the problem is that some of the American boys are on dial up .Incredibly slow . Perhaps clickable thumbnails if your images are really big ?

I reckon the size you've got are fine Rufus. I made mine uploaded shot to Picturetrail bigger after I got sick of seeing grainy washout of the detail I was trying to show when I posted my photos. If you can stick to about 100 kb minimum and 180-190 kb maximum you should be right.

Peter, clickable thumbnails are out as i think the thread totally loses its impact ad gloss.

Duncan, I think you re right and I'll keep on the way I have been going.

In dimension terms about 800 x 600 or in file size about 200 Kb

                              200kb should be fine Rufus.

The original file is about 4 Mb, which allows for some good editing.

I have copied the folder to leave the original photos untouched.

                                Accidents happen.

I'll experiment with resizing a whole copied folder Ian and see how I go.
