      Battery is on the charger. It's one of the chargers that has an indicator of battery condition. So far after about four hours it says 'dead' but I'll leave it a little bit longer in case it turns 'zombie', but not likely.

      Spent a long time today helping a mate weld up a broken arm on the right hand wheel mud guard. All done apart from some cold-galv paint. Had a better look under the trailer and decided the springs need to be replaced before it goes off for pre-rego inspection.

      Ran up the engine again just for some motivational stuff, and started going through all the wiring, cleaning and WD-40 spraying anything metallic that's exposed. Sorted out the sheets and checked the blocks and fittings. A dozen or so jobs there that will happen in serial fashion over the next few months.

      Started stripping back the damaged rudder blade. It is a WRC/glass blade, nicely shaped, but damaged by the prop on the stbd side. Stripping that side to be repaired, along with the leading edge. I'll paint it when it has the dings filled and the stbd face re-glassed. Pity as the WRC that's intact does kinda look good. Future project to make a new wooden foil-shaped blade.

      Was going to stand the mast up late this arvo but it's too hot and mate and I were too exhausted, so deferred to another day. Most of the rigging is sorted out now except the vang, which I just haven't got to yet.

      Starting on the brightwork in small doses. Thinking of getting some Deks Olje #1 and doing the ply in that. the existing varnish is breached and peeling so it will come off OK.

      Had a sit and a yack inside with my mate, who used to own a 23 foot wooden keel boat that we sailed together quite a bit. He loves Nanjera and I can see some shared adventures coming up. James, my son, has taken complete ownership of Nanjera and is asking when he will be able to take his mates away for booze-up weekends sailing, and why can't he paint the hull red. Ummm, it's his boat, but no!

        Bruce my 2nd 16 was red, with a cream deck. Looked pretty good IMHO

          Good job Jimmy isn't a lurker here then I'm concerned about the amount of work to paint the hull. I want 12 months at least out of the current hull paint, if possible. Jimmy thinks it will be a snap to paint it Of course, if you'd like to volunteer to come help him paint it red I'd be happy to watch I reckon a bit over a week and we'll be sailing. When are you coming for a sail/decco??

            When will she be getting her bottom wet? Might be in PNG the next 2 or 3 weeks though to shut things down there.

              May be getting her wet on Friday if I can jury rig a rudder blade. No rig, just a motoring trip to wet everything. Probably a week or two after that for a harbour trial with sails up, assuming she doesn't sink on first outing. I'm a bit worried about retrieving her up a ramp with Sheila's car though. Possibly be backing up the ramp pulling a tow rope from the car towing hook. Maybe.

                Dont worry Bruce. My 1st TS 16 was a very early hull number, well before they started making them at all light, and her trailer was a singular monument to BHP. I towed that one around behind a little Fiat 128 Sport, and even with front wheel drive never had any serious problems. I think I'll have to pass on the motoring trials. Busy day Friday preparing for a veggie patch dinner and a thing we are doing at the Uraidla Sustainability Fair on Saturday. Skiving off to play boats would not play well at home.

                  I wonder if this one is as good as it looks? They rarely are, of course:

There was also the story that one of those boats was put on Gumtree as a private sale, and when discussions progressed, I was 'handed over to the boat yard for a straight commercial sale. I told the boat yard i wasn't interested. Interestingly I got a follow up phone call yesterday from the 'private seller' asking why I hadn't bought his boat. Noice.

                      Why does Dunc's by-word say 'banned' ??

                      Spent the day so far rowing in prep for a race on Saturday, then finishing off a little job I did fora mate, in the rain. Too wet to work on the boat outside at the moment, so Jimmy and I went for a drive looking for the right boat ramp for the upcoming HATs. I'm thinking West Beach, although there is a launch fee. Sheltered ramp with rock groynes either side, not sure how steep, dock area so Sheila can walk along side and step in.

                      Also, I got an email from the prospective employer today saying they will get back to me next week to try to work out the way forward. Sounds promising, though not quite definitive. Much excitement building.

                        I'm guessing he got himself banned, no idea why.
                        have you thought of North Haven launch ramp? Nearby and well set up.
                        Whats a HAT? Hartley A.... Trial?

                          HAT = Harbour Acceptance Trial
                          SAT =Sea Acceptance Trial

                          Harbour trials will incude a) will it sink (if I put the bungs in) b) will it manoeuvre under outboard c) will anything fall off or fail d) will the rig go up and stay up
                          Sea trials will include a) will the sails go up and stay up b) will the centreboard go up and down and lock into any defined position c) will the rig adjusting controls adjust the rig d) will the boat sail e) will the sheets do their jobs and not jam in the cleats when attempting to uncleat f) will the boat handle a seaway under sail, motor and both, in the context of an out/return to Port Vincent.

                          Lots of inferred/undocumented functionality to be figuratively 'signed off' within those HATs and SATs.

                          North Haven looks good, is in the right location, but is not cheap. I don't want to be paying the CYC, who own/operate that ramp, the equivalent of a couple of years memberships at Largs to use their ramp. But it's a good ramp and we may use it occasionally.

                          Can't imagine what a mild, unassuming guy like Dunc would have done to get banned...

                            Today I did a stress test of Nanjera's water repulsion capabilities in terms of ingress from above. Not actively, I just locked her up and left her to cope in the rain. Not well, was the result. I mopped up 13 litres of rainwater out of the bilges tonight, then left everything open to the air and slung a giant tarp over the mast/boom, the length of the boat. Now waiting for tomorrow's downpour of expected 80mm with less than full enthusiasm.

                            I guess that's one way of cleaning the bilges. Unfortunately I now have a fair bit of work to plug the leaks. It looks like the hull/deck seam amidships and both sides is one area of ingress, and the perspex cabin windows another as the rubber gaskets are perished and breaking up. I suspect the cockpit sole where it joins the seat longitudinals, but that's speculation at this stage. Some controlled testing to follow then remediation
