    I followed that little disaster as it happened, how they could imagine any different outcome is not believable.

      Is that the boat was aground at Honolua Bay on Maui? Towed, already stripped, I reckon easier to say 'oops' that ask permission to scuttle...
      but I'm a bit of a cynic I guess. The whole tale was just stupid at the outset, I think the contractors did their best in a PR quandry.

          Didnt have that feel to it: Owner operating his 'charter' boat for a family outing (no license, experience, nor state permits), made off to a 'day use' mooring for days, went aground in a sanctuary )and iconic surf break). Flailed around, State took over, she was stuck and holed. Contractors got her off. Reportedly insurance declined as the useage was not covered (no licensed crew etc.) Just a mess, but a pretty well-noticed one due to location of it.
