    Thought this might be of interest.

    A dugout sailing dinghy carved out of an oak log and flaired using heat.

    Unfortunately I don't have any details about the maker or how well it sailed. I saw it years ago and managed to find this single photo on a blog. Photo credit Simon Demant.

    This one people may be familiar with. Snookwis, converted from an old waterlogged cedar dugout, apparently around Nitinat lake on Vancouver island. Godfrey Stephens found and copper sheathed and converted it. I read about it in Lloyd Kahns book - Tiny homes on the move.

        that boat in post #1 is remarkable
        Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.
