When I first posted this I was unable to get the photos right side up, so I later deleted them. A bit further down in the thread I posted a couple of similar photos. They are up close and I think they show the good condition of the boat and the stage of the restoration.

Take over a Blanchard Senior restoration
I have a Blanchard Senior in an enclosed shed on Vashon Island, WA. undergoing restoration. Its about ready to repaint. The decks are done. I've found I cannot finish project and am looking for someone to take it on. She never had an auxiliary nor galley. She remains just as she was designed. I've found it difficult to even find places locally to post her availability, unless i'd like to spend a couple hundred bucks to advertise her. I'll probably break down and do this at some point. As you can see, I had some trouble posting photos here, but I'd be happy to send to anyone interested. This boat is in very good condition. Reply here or call me directly at 206 427 8450.

Re: Take over a Blanchard Senior restoration
Do you have more pictures of her? I owned one in the ‘70s and I’ve lost track of her, although from what little I see here this is not mine. A couple of other curiosities; they originally had inboard chain plates and no molding below the shear. But many have been heavily modified.Comment

Re: Take over a Blanchard Senior restoration
Many other questions (which more pix would help). Do you know the hull number? Is she pre-war (shorter hull with boomkin) or post-war ( longer hull, no boomkin)? Most likely the cabin stops aft of the mast and has two forward port lights, or mine, and possibly one other had a cabin that extended forward of the mast and only one forward port light.Comment

Re: Take over a Blanchard Senior restoration
The Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle may want her. It might complement their fleet of Blanchard Junior's quite well.
A living museum where you can rent a boat, learn to sail, or volunteer. The Center for Wooden Boats brings a diverse community together to experience the joys of sailing, boat building, and Pacific Northwest small craft heritage.

Re: Take over a Blanchard Senior restoration
thanks for the interest. I've learned that artificial intelligence cannot tell if an image is sideways. Ah, but I can. I'll post answers to your questions later, but for now, two slightly better photos. And unfortunately Seattle's CWB is not interested. They've got a new museum and this boat "does not fit any of their programs."Attached FilesComment

Re: Take over a Blanchard Senior restoration
She was built in 1946 and is 26 ft long. It has a fractional inboard rig, bulb keel. A survey after a complete restoration of July 1988 by Ed Louchard, Pt Towsend, states hull number is B48. Its value was stated as $10,500, replacement cost as $18,000. In the photo above there is a piece of rub rail sitting on the side deck. I should have moved that for the photo. Cedar wedge seamed planking said to be original, but I would think the wedge seams were done during the renovation? The bottom was reported as having used resourcinal and refastened. At that point it was said to have been 80% reframed. The solid mast is 36 ft. BSKA Fleet Historian, Jim Llewellyn, in a letter dated 1987 to Scott Walker of Port Townsend, lists its previous owners, including Ted Lee, Russ Boyer, George Enzmann, Tom Brennan, Richard Rheinhart, Rick Reinertson, and Scott Walker. Llewellyn speculates Rheinhart and Reinertson maybe same person. I believe this boat is pretty much just how she was designed. She never had any provision for galley, head, nor auxiliary, nor other systems except battery powered lights. Please feel free to call 206 427 8450Comment

Re: Take over a Blanchard Senior restoration
Mine was B22, built in 1940. I remember Jim Llewelyn, he was a Sr. owner when I was. I’m still confused about a couple of things I see in your photos. I don’t remember any that had outboard chain plates, plus that second rub rail 6” or so below the top rub rail I don’t think is original. Mine was also cedar splined below the waterline, but that was not original, but done early in her life for a smoother racing bottom. I wish I had mor pictures of mine but they were all lost in a move.Comment

Re: Take over a Blanchard Senior restoration
Here is a pic of mine during a Duck Dodge on Lake Union. The painted sheer stripe is a little over the top, but remember, this was the flowery ‘70s.

Re: Take over a Blanchard Senior restoration
Please forgive my ineptitude with posting. I deleted the sideways photos from my initial posting and this messed up the continuity of the thread. Thanks Hugh MacD for suggestion of Toledo. I'll check with them. Ron ll asked about the outboard chain plates. Some old snap shots I got, show that was done during her renovation in the 1980's. The second rub rail Ron ll asked about is actually a groove an inch from the bottom of the top strake.Comment
