Gaff Rigger...I see you are in Florida. A neighbor of ours built one in Cocoa Beach back in the 1960s. He kept it behind his house at the dock. Your construction doesnt sound familiar but I have to ask if that was you? Does the first name of Ash ring a bell?Comment

Re: "Starlite" 27-1/2 ft Auxiliary Cruiser
Hello gaff rigger I to have a starlite built in Adelaide south Australia launched 1976 I purchased boat in a very degraded state the original build was very well done and the modifications to the design created a rather a excellent looking boat she’s a flush decker with small pilot house much improved from the original below the water line she is to the plans and the builder adopted the cast iron keel as per the plan this should weigh in at 1150 lbs I read that you increased the draft by 4 inches and used concrete for the ballast are you sure this came in at 1500 lbs because the original ballast weight for concrete was only 702 lbs lead would be 1846 lbs I feel she could do with a bit extra weight down below maybe a steel shoe instead of the timber shoe 200-250 lbs extra stiffen her up a bit I found the article in wooden boat magazine recently about starlite as per plans she’s not the prettiest boat and I don’t think that article would of sent everyone rushing to purchase plans I think the old fellow who built my starlite did a fine job and few extras I’ve done during the rebuild have resulted in a very classy little boat. If I do say so my self .a design from a completely unheard of boat designer in Australia [william jackson] I’m sure any of you Americans would appreciate knowing there is at least one starlite in Australia. I will try and post a few pics cheersComment
