  • Scamp forum(s)?

    Hello all,

We've become interested (very) in a boat that once interested me not at all, but for a variety of reasons, John Welsford's Scamp is on a short list of one. I keep reading about forums, but can't find one on the google search engine. Lots for Scamp trailers though, god forbid. Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

There used to be an active yahoo group for John Welsford designs and people building them. I think the action might have switched to John's Facebook page these days:

Small Craft Advisor who developed Scamp digitally with John Welsford run the Scamp forum on their website. Its fairly busy and there’s a wealth of info. Because its a sub forum on the magazine its not easily found by google i think, but it must be their primary source of traffic. That’s where all the Scamp builders hang out...I think plan numbers are 500-1000 territory now, which is alot in the woodenboat world. SCA sell the sail, I think it was procured from North Sails when dad was involved.

It would be nice to know a summary update sheet from the early plans, i dont think it needed much if anything. Optionally some people now build a foot well by leaving off the top cockpit floor section between two bulkheads and take the cuddy bulkhead vertically down at the sides, less keyhole, for a bit more protection if sat inside and to mount things to. Those are two things i’d noticed, tell us any others! A yawl rig was drawn too. I think all 3 were how Howard Rice chose to build his. Its a very good boat.

There’s the Scamp envy/ lust thread on here you’re probably aware of.

              I'd love me a Scamp...
