  • "The Sand Pebbles" movie 1966; Motor Sampan?

    Hello Forum,

Seeking plans/drawings of the motorized sampan from the "USS San Pablo" in the Sand Pebbles movie starring Steve McQueen.

If you haven't seen the movie, it's an inboard-powered sampan of about 20' length.

    Thanks in advance,

Get a copy of Harry V Sucher's, Simplified Boat Building: The Flat Bottom Boat.

My copy is on loan to a friend, but I believe such a boat is found in that book.

Still available too, though prices vary somewhat.

Whatever you build from Sucher's book make sure you loft it

It's such a great movie and book. The relationship between Steve McQueen's character and Po-han, the kid he trains to be an engineer, is really touching.
